The GPS 45 provides 10 hours of operation innormal mode and up to 20 hours of operation inbattery saver mode on 4 AA alkaline batteries.Rechargeable Ni-Cad or lithium batteries may alsobe used. Note that the battery level indicator is cal-ibrated for alkaline batteries, and Ni-Cad and lithi-um batteries will only show battery life at partialscale. No other functions will be affected.To install batteries:1. Remove the battery cover by turning the thumbloop 1/4 turn counter-clockwise.2. Insert batteries into position. The battery poleyou can still see should match the symbolmarked on the case3. Replace the battery cover by turning the thumbloop 1/4 turn clockwise.Never store your GPS 45 without batteries. A built-in capacitor will save almanac and waypoint datawhile you are changing the batteries, but will onlysave data for a period of time (a few hours).
