GPS 35 PCThe GARMIN GPS 35 PC is designed for easy installation and initialization. For bestperformance, please refer to the following instructions.Mounting the GPSThe GPS 35 PC is designed for use inthe automotive environment, and should bemounted with the optional magnetic, suc-tion cup, trunk lip or surface mount (notincluded). Make sure you select a locationwhere the receiver has the clearest view ofthe sky possible for best results. Keep in mind that GPS signals do not travel throughbuildings, metal, roofs, road signs, people or other significant structures. Mounting thereceiver in the highest possible location usually works best.Electrical ConnectionsYour GPS 35 PC features a standard DB-9 serial connector and cigarette lighter plugfor connection to your PC serial data port and 12 volt DC power source. Plug the ciga-rette lighter plug into a 12 vDC receptacle, and connect the 9-pin D connector to the ser-ial port of your PC. Note that the cigarette lighter plug has a user-replaceable in-line fuseto protect the GPS. The DB-9 connector uses the following pin-out format:PIN 2: Data TransmitPIN 3: Data ReceivePIN 5: Signal GroundInitializationOnce you apply the correct power to the GPS for first-time use, it will begin search-ing for satellites in AutoLocateTM mode. This process will initialize the receiver, andshould compute your position in no more than 5 minutes. After the GPS has been ini-tialized, you will usually acquire a fix within a minute. If you have trouble acquiring a fixor losing satellite signals, double check the installation to verify that the antenna is cor-rectly installed with a clear view of the sky.
