3 GPSMAP ® 500 Series Owner’s ManualconfIGurInG the unItSetting Sonar AlarmsTo set a sonar alarm, from the Home screen, select Configure >Alarms > Sonar.Shallow Water/Deep Water—set an alarm to sound when the depthis less than or greater than the specified value.Water Temp—set an alarm to sound when the transducer reportsa temperature that is 2° F (1.1° C) above or below the specifiedtemperature.Fish—set an alarm to sound when the unit detects a suspendedtarget of the specified symbols.NOTE: You must have a transducer connected. If your unit doesnot have a built-in sounder, then you must install a GSD 21 orGSD 22 sounder module to receive sonar information.Setting Weather AlarmsTo set a weather alarm, from the Home screen, select Configure >Alarms > Weather Alarms.NOTE: You must have a subscription to XM WX Weather andthe optional GXM 31 antenna plugged into the XM port on theback of your unit to view weather information. XM Weatheris available only on GPSMAP 530/535/540/545 units. See theGXM 31 Owner’s Manual for more information.Configuring My BoatTo configure settings for your boat, from the Home screen, selectConfigure > My boat.Auto Guidance—set the Auto Guidance parameters for your boat:• Safe Depth—set the minimum depth (referred to the chartdepth datum) to allow when calculating an auto guidance path.• Safe Height—set the minimum height (referred to the chartheight datum) of a bridge that your boat can safely travelunder.Keel Offset—offset the surface reading for the depth of a keel. Thismakes it possible to measure depth from the bottom of your keelinstead of from the transducer’s location. Enter a positive number tooffset for a keel. You can enter a negative number to compensate fora large vessel that may draw several feet of water.To adjust the Keel Offset:1. From the Home screen, select Configure > My Boat > KeelOffset.2. Use the ROCKER to set the value of the keel offset.3. Press SELECT to accept the number.NOTE: Press MENU to cancel your changes and return to theMy Boat screen.
