40Installation InstructionsWARNING!INSTALLATION SAFETYINSTRUCTIONSRead these instructions completely and carefully.Improper installation, adjustment, alteration, serviceor maintenance can cause injury or property damage.Refer to this manual. For assistance or additionalinformation, consult a qualified installer, serviceagency, manufacturer (dealer) or the gas supplier.Never reuse old flexible connectors. The useof old flexible connectors can cause gas leaks andpersonal injury. Always use NEW flexible connectorswhen installing a gas appliance.IMPORTANT – Remove all packingmaterial and literature from oven before connectinggas and electrical supply to range.CAUTION – Do not attempt to operatethe oven of this range during a power failure (ElectricIgnition models only). Have your range installed by a qualified installer. Your range must be electrically grounded inaccordance with local codes or, in the absenceof local codes, in accordance with the NationalElectrical Code (ANSI/NFPA 70, latest edition).In Canada, electrical grounding must be inaccordance with the current CSA C22.1 CanadianElectrical Code Part 1 and/or local codes. SeeElectrical Connections in this section. Before installing your range on linoleum or anyother synthetic floor covering, make sure the floorcovering can withstand 180°F without shrinking,warping or discoloring. Do not install the rangeover carpeting unless a sheet of 1/4″ thick plywoodor similar insulator is placed between the rangeand carpeting. Make sure the wall coverings around the range canwithstand heat generated by the range up to 200°F. Avoid placing cabinets above the range. To reducethe hazard caused by reaching over the openflames of operating burners, install a ventilationhood over the range that projects forward at least5″ beyond the front of the cabinets. The ventilating hood must be constructedof sheet metal not less than 0.0122″ thick.Install above the cooktop with a clearance of notless than 1/4″ between the hood and the undersideof the combustible material or metal cabinet. Thehood must be at least as wide as the appliance andcentered over the appliance. Clearance betweenthe cooking surface and the ventilation hoodsurface MUST NEVER BE LESS THAN 24INCHES.EXCEPTION: Installation of a listed microwave ovenor cooking appliance over the cooktop shall conformto the installation instructions packed with thatappliance. If cabinets are placed above the range,allow a minimum clearance of 30″ between thecooking surface and the bottom of unprotectedcabinets. If a 30″ clearance between cooking surface andoverhead combustible material or metal cabinetscannot be maintained, protect the underside of thecabinets above the cooktop with not less than 1/4″insulating millboard covered with sheet metal notless than 0.0122″ thick. Clearance between thecooking surface and protected cabinets MUSTNEVER BE LESS THAN 24 INCHES. The vertical distance from the plane of the cookingsurface to the bottom of adjacent overhead cabinetsextending closer than 1″ to the plane of the rangesides must not be less than 18″. (See the Dimensionsand Clearances illustration in this section.) CAUTION – Items of interest tochildren should not be stored in cabinets above arange or on the backsplash of a range—childrenclimbing on the range to reach items could beseriously injured.
