Care and cleaning of the oven.Be sure electrical power is off and all surfaces are cool before cleaning any part of the oven.How to Remove Protective Shipping Film and Packaging TapeCarefully grasp a corner of the protectiveshipping film with your fingers and slowly peelit from the appliance surface. Do not use anysharp items to remove the film. Removeall ofthe film before using the appliance for the firsttime.To assure no damage is done to thefinish of the product, the safest way to removethe adhesive from packaging tape on newappliances is an application of a householdliquid dishwashing detergent. Apply with a softcloth and allow to soak.NOTE'.Theadhesive must be removed from allparts. It cannot be removed if it is baked on.Oven RacksCleanthe oven racks with an abrasive cleanseror steel wool. After cleaning, rinse the racks with clean waterand dry with a clean cloth.Do not allow food spillswith a high sugar or acidcontent (such as tomatoes,sauerkraut, fruit juices orpie filling) to remain on thesurface. They may cause adull spot even after cleaning.Porcelain Oven InteriorWith proper care, the porcelain enamel finishon the inside of the oven-top, bottom, sides,back and inside of the door-will stay new-looking for years.Let the oven cool before cleaning. Werecommend that you wear rubber gloves whencleaning the oven.Soap and water will normally do thejob. Heavyspattering or spillovers may require cleaningwith a mild abrasive cleaner. Soap-filled steelwool pads may also be used.Household ammonia may make the cleaningjob easier. Place 1/2 cup in a shallow glass orpottery container in a cold oven overnight. Theammonia fumes will help loosen the burned-ongrease and food.If necessary,you may use an oven cleaner.Follow the package directions.Do not spray oven cleaner on the electricalcontrols and switches because it could causea short circuit and result in sparking or fire.Do not allow a film from the cleaner to buildup on the temperature sensor-it couldcause the oven to heat improperly. (Thesensor is located at the top of the oven.)Carefully wipe the sensor clean after eachoven cleaning, being careful not to movethe sensor as a change in its position couldaffect how the oven bakes.Do not spray any oven cleaner on the ovendoor, handles or any exterior surface ofthe oven, cabinets or painted surfaces. Thecleaner can damage these surfaces.Painted SurfacesCleanwith soap and water or a vinegar andwater solution.Do not use commercial oven cleaners,cleansing powders, steel wool or harshabrasives on any painted surface.Control PanelIt's a good idea to wipe the control panel aftereach use. Clean with mild soap and water orvinegar and water, rinse with clean water andpolish dry with a soft cloth. When cleaning, thecontrol panel should be at room temperatureand not in direct sunlight.Do not use abrasive cleansers, strong liquidcleansers, plastic scouring pads or ovencleaners on the control panel-they willdamage the finish. A 50/50 solution of vinegarand hot water works well.14
