Before installing the cooktop or moving it to anotherlocation, have the electrician verify:• That your home is provided with adequate electricalservice.• That the addition of the cooktop will not overload thehousehold circuit on which it is used.PREPARATION11Installation Instructions1Install anapprovedjunction boxwhere it will beeasily accessiblethrough thefront of thecabinet wherecooktop will belocated. See theillustration atright for thesuggestedmountinglocation.INSTALL THE JUNCTION BOX2Install the cooktop in the cutout opening.NOTE: If the cooktop is being installed in a blind counter(one with no cabinet opening below), wire connectionsmust be made before putting the cooktop into the cutout.INSTALL THE COOKTOP3Secure the tub of the cooktop to a standard counter withthe wood screws shipped with the cooktop.Secure the tub of the cooktop to a tile counter with4 masonry screws. These can be purchased at anyhardware store.SECURE THE COOKTOP4WARNINGThe electrical power to the cooktop supply line must beshut off while line connections are being made. Failure todo so could result in serious injury or death. When making the wire connections, use the entire lengthof conduit provided (3 feet). The conduit must not be cut.Connect the red and black leads from the cooktopconduit to the corresponding leads in the junction box.The power leads supplied with this appliance are ULrecognized for connection to larger gauge householdwiring. The insulation of the leads is rated at much highertemperatures than the temperature rating of householdwiring. The current carrying capacity of the conductor isgoverned by the wire gauge and also the temperaturerating of the insulation around the wire.GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONSThe bare ground wire in the conduit is connected to thecooktop frame. When connecting to a 3 conductor branch circuit, if localcodes permit, connect the bare ground connector leadof the cooktop to the branch circuit neutral (gray or whitein color).Effective January 1, 1996, the National ElectricalCode requires that new construction use a (4)conductor connection and will not permit groundingthrough neutral. If used in new construction afterJanuary 1, 1996, in a mobile home or recreationalvehicle, or if local codes do not permit groundingthrough the neutral white lead, do the following:Attach the appliance grounding lead (green or barecopper) to the residence grounding conductor (greenor bare copper) in accordance with local codes.MAKE ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS5TubJunctionbox
