IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICEThe California Safe Drinking Water and ToxicEnforcement Act requires the Governor ofCalifornia to publish a list of substances known tothe state to cause cancer, birth defects or otherreproductive harm and requires businesses to warncustomers of potential exposure to such substances.Gas appliances can cause minor exposure to four ofthese substances, namely benzene, carbon monoxide,formaldehyde and soot, caused primarily by theincomplete combustion of natural gas or LP fuels.Properly adjusted burners, indicated by a bluishrather than a yellow flame, will minimize incompletecombustion. Exposure to these substances can beminimized further by venting with an open windowor using a ventilation fan or hood.When You Get Your CooktopWhen you get your cooktop, have the installershow you the location cf the gas shutoff valveand how to shut it off if necessary.Have your cooktop installed and properlygrounded by a qualified installer, in accordancewith the Installation Instructions. Any adjustmentand service should by performed only by qualifiedgas range installers or service technicians.9l-Plug your cooktop into a 120-volt groundedoutlet only. Do n{t remove the roun~ groundingprong from the plug. If in doubt about thegrounding of the home electrical system, it is yourpersonal responsibility and obligation to have anungrounded outlet replaced with a properly-grounded three-prong outlet in accordance withthe National Electrical Code. Do not use anextension cord with this appliance.Be sure all packing materials are removed fromthe cooktop before operating it, to prevent fire orsmoke damage should the packing material ignite.Be sure your cooktop is correctly adjusted by aqualified service technician or installer. Thiscounter unit, as shipped from the factory, canonly be operated with natural gas. Do not tryto operate it with LP (bottled) gas unless youfollow the Installation Instructions ~acked withc Don’t attempt to repair or replace anypart of your cooktop unless it is specificallyrecommended in this guide. All other servicingshould be referred to a qualified technician.Using Your Cooktopl Don’t leave children alone or unattendedwhere a cooktop is hot or in operation. Theycould be seriously burned.l CAUTION: ITEMS OF INTEREST TOCHILDREN SHOULD NOT BE STOREDIN CABINETS ABOVE A COOKTOP—CHILDREN CLIMBING ON THECOOKTOP TO REACH ITEMS COULDBE SERIOUSLY INJURED.l Teach children not to play with the controls orany other part of the cooktop.l Do not operate the burner without all burnerparts in place.l Do not clean the cooktop with flammable orvolatile cleaning fluids.l Do not clean the cooktop when the appliance isin use.l Avoid scratching the cooktop with sharpimplements, or with rings and other jewelry.l Never use the cooktop as a cutting board.l Let burner grates and other surfaces coolbefore touching them or leaving them wherechildren can reach them.. Never wear loose-fitting or hanging garmentswhile using the appliance. Be careful whenreaching for items stored in cabinets over thecooktop. Flammable material could be ignited ifbrought in contact with flame or hot surfaces andmay cause severe burns.l Never use your appliance for warming orheating the room.
