These grates are position-specific. Formaximum stability, these grates should only beused in their proper position; they cannot beinterchanged left to right or front to back. Forconvenience on double grates, the undersidesof the left and right grates are marked "LEFTFRONT"and "RIGHTFRONT."Make sure thefront portion of both grates is in front. Themiddle grate has a bow in front. Make sure thebowed portion is toward the front of the range.In addition, the middle grate is supported by theleft and right grates and must be installed LASTfor stability.CleaningLiftout when cool. Grates should be washedregularly and, of course, after spillovers. Washthem in hot, soapy water and rinse with cleanwater. When replacing the grates, be surethey are positioned securely over the burners.Replace the grates so that continuous arcs areformed with the center ribs of all three grates.Do not operate a burner for an extended periodof time without cookware on the grate. Thefinish on the grate may chip without cookwareto absorb the heat.To get rid of burned-on food, place the grates ina covered container. Add 1/4 cup ammonia andlet them soak several hours or overnight. Wash,rinse well and dry.Although they are durable, the grates willgradually lose their shine, regardless of thebest care you can give them. This is due to theircontinual exposure to high temperatures. Youwill notice this sooner with lighter color grates.NOTE:Do not clean the grates in a self-cleaningoven.31
