39SP Series Install e-GuideTroubleshooting an SP Series card printer with the Built-in Ethernet featureThe following problems might occur when installing an SP Series printer with Built-in Ethernet feature. Address thepossible causes in the order listed.Test LED does not light up onpower up the print server.The power or network connectionfor the print server is not working.Make sure that the print server isconnected to a power source and that thenetwork connection is good. See the guidefor the print server.On Windows XP or 2000, theDCNETn port does not appear inthe Smart Driver Ports list wheninstalling the printer.The network port driver was notinstalled successfully.Remove the Smart Driver™ and install thedriver again. Make sure that you chooseto install a network printer.Port status is:The port mode has not beendetected.The network address or name ofthe printer has not been defined.In the printer Properties dialog box, makesure the port is a Datacard® network port(DCNet_) and that the IP address ordevice name is configured for the port.Port status is:Network not responding.The print server is notresponding to a query by theprinter driver.Check the power to the print server, andthe connections from the printer, printserver and network. Also verify the PCconnection to the network.Port status is:Communication with the printer issuspended.The printer has been busy or thenetwork has not responded formore than 30 seconds.Resume the Printer Toolbox to seewhether the printer is busy or the networkis not responding.If the status remains, check the printer.Make sure it is powered on. See if anotherPC is displaying a message. Address theprinter problem if possible.Problem Cause Possible solutionYou installed the Smart Driver™and specified the IP address ofthe printer, but could not connectto the printer.The IP addresses are notcorrect.Use the printer LCD panel to retrieve theIP addresses (IP address, subnet mask,and gateway address).Make sure you have selected the correctaddress mode (DHCP or Static IP). Theaddress mode of the printer must matchthe addressing used on the network.On SP55 printers with the OpenCard feature, the data format isnot correct.Make sure the data format (displayed onthe LCD panel) is Smart Driver™. Changeit if needed.A card sent from a PC does notprint.On SP55 printers with the OpenCard feature, the card used adata format that was not selectedon the LCD panel.Change the data format so the printerrecognizes the data format sent.
