Pads, soap-filled steel wool pads,Soft Scrub, or Bon-Ami may be used withextreme care on occasion to remove the mostserious stains. Exercise caution – extensiveuse of abrasives will eventually damage theporcelain enamel surface.Stainless Steel SurfacesClean these surfaces with the provided ElcoStainless Steel Cleaner. Rinse and dry with asoft lint-free cloth.IMPORTANT:If commercially available stainless steelcleaners are used, it is important to read thelabels for chlorine compounds. Chlorine is acorrosive substance. If these compounds arepresent, rinse thoroughly and dry with a softlint-free cloth.Always wipe stainless steel surfaces with thegrain.Porcelain SurfacesThe black and white models are finished inporcelain enamel. Clean this surface with asolution of mild detergent and hot water. Rinsewith a soft cloth. Do not use abrasives orcommercial oven cleaners.Stubborn stains may be removed by applyingfull-strength sprays such as Simple Green, AjaxAll-Purpose Cleaner, Formula 409, or ScotchGuard.IMPORTANT:1. Never use the cooktop surface as acutting board.2. Do not use abrasive cleaners orapplicators on the cooktop.3. Do not try to remove heavy spills witha sharp object such as a knife or metalspatula. Sharp objects may scratch thecooktop.4. A small amount of baby oil may beapplied to stainless steel tops to restorethe lustre.Knobs and Knob BezelsThe control knobs provided with this cooktop aredesigned for ease of use and longevity. The “D”shaped design of the knob shaft ensures properorientation when re-installing the knob.IMPORTANT:Never block the holes in the control panelbeneath the knobs, because this will impairthe flow of combustion air and adverselyaffect burner operation, possibly creating ahazardous condition.The knobs are made of a composite plastic.These components should be washed regularlyin warm, soapy water. Hand dishwashingliquid is excellent for this task. Knobs shouldbe removed by gently pulling them straight outand off of the valve shafts. The spill protectorsshould be cleaned in place. Use caution to avoidintroduction of moisture into the control panelbehind the bezels. To replace knobs, align the“D-shaped” opening at the bottom of the knobwith the “D-shaped” valve shaft, then carefullypress the knob onto the valve.IMPORTANT:1. Turn the knobs to the “OFF” positionprior to removing them from the valvestems.2. The cooktop should never be operatedwithout the knobs in place.3. Do not soak the knobs in water or placethem in the dishwasher.4. Do not expose the knobs to directflame, hot utensils, or other sources ofheat.5. Do not use abrasive or corrosivecleaners or applicators, as these couldcause permanent damage.Burner BasesThe burner base, which is permanently attachedto the cooktop, is made of aluminum. Thebase should be wiped clean using a soft clothor sponge that has been lightly dampenedwith warm water and hand dishwashing liquid.Thoroughly clean and dry the ignitors to preventconstant sparking of the reignition system. Referto the Burner Ignitors for cleaning tips.Burner RingsThe brass burner rings spread the flame evenlyaround the burner perimeters. The burner ringsmust seat properly in the burner bases to enableproper cooktop operation. To ensure properseating, positioning tabs have been placedon the bottom of each burner ring to slide intocorresponding notches in the fixed burner base.To remove the burner ring, first remove thegrate, then lift off the porcelain burner cap.The burner ring may then be removed from theburner base. Soak the burner ring in a warmsolution of hand dishwashing liquid and water,then rinse well with clean water. Dry the burnerthoroughly before placing it back on the burnerbase.Stubborn stains may be removed by applyinga metal polishing compound such as Lunetaor Flitz. (If you are unable to locate this type ofpolishing compound, please phone the DACORCustomer Service Department for a referral.)Burner IgnitorsUnder certain cooking or cleaning conditions,your cooktop ignitors may become coatedwith or corroded by food deposits, splatteredgrease or cleaning agents. This condition cancause erratic or continuous sparking. Keepingthe ignitors clean and dry will help to reducethis problem. To avoid unnecessary and costlyservice calls, the homeowner should performperiodic cleaning of the ignitors. An IgnitorCleaning Brush is enclosed for your use incleaning the cooktop ignitors.To clean the ignitors:1. Be sure burners are cool to the touch.Remove the grate, burner cap and burnerrings.2. Brush completely around the ignitor,including over and under the edge ofthe metal cap and base. Use care whilecleaning here. The ignitor is porcelain andcan be fragile.3. DO NOT USE WATER when cleaning theignitors. If a liquid must be used to cleanthe ignitor effectively, use only a smallamount of rubbing alcohol.4. After cleaning, reinstall the burner ring,burner cap and grate. Make sure the brassburner ring is properly seated into theburner base.5. Test the burners. If erratic clicking is stillpresent, make sure the ignitor is completelydry. If the unit still exhibits problems afterdrying, call your local DACOR AuthorizedServicer.U-Burner Gas Grill (SGM464GG)1. Your gas grill will develop greasy areas asa normal result of use. Clean all greasysurfaces with mild soap and a cloth, thisincludes heat control channel.2. Do not wash the U-shaped burner in adishwasher.3. Clean the surface of the U-shaped burnerwith soapy water and a brush. Do notsubmerge the burner in water. Rinse underwater and dry thoroughly.4. During cleaning some material may getclogged in the holes of the gas tubing. Usea paper clip or needle to free all pluggedhole of lose material. Dump all cleaningmaterials out from inside the U-burnerbefore reassembling the appliance. |
