7IMPORTANT:When a burner is cool the igniters may continueto spark if the control knob is set to the LOWposition. The igniters will stop sparking whenthe burner is warm. The tendency to spark whencold can be reduced by operating the cold burnerat a higher flame setting for about 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, lower the flame to cook. Theburner will also warm up faster if a utensil isplaced on the grate. The igniters will also sparkautomatically if the flame s ostorted by a draftor by the household ventilation system. Elimi -nate any drafts or reduce the ventilation blowerspeed to reduce ths type of problem. To keep the burners operating properly, keepthe burner igniters, burner rings and burnercaps clean and dry. See the Care and Cleaningsection starting on page 8. Dirty or wet igniterswill result in constant sparking, even if there s aflame present. The flame should burn evenly around the perim -eter of the burner, except underneath each gratesupport finger, where the flame height is reducedby Dacor’s Smart-Flame feature. A normal flameis steady and blue in color. Foreign material inthe gas line, especially in new construction, maycause an orange flame during initial operation. The orange color will osappear with further use.Small yellow tips on the ends of the flame arenormal when using LP gas.Cooking TipsFor superior cooking performance and to saveenergy:Reduce the flame height to the minimum levelnecessary to perform the desired cooking pro -cess. Food cooks just as quickly at a gentle boilas it doe at a vigorous, rolling boil. A higher boilthan is necessary wastes energy, cooks awaymoosture and cause a loss in food flavor andnutrients.Use low or medium flame heights when cookingin utensil that are poor conductors of heat, suchas glass, ceramic and cast iron cooking vessels.Reduce the flame height until it covers approxi-mately 1/3 of the utensil diameter to ensureeven heating and reduce scorching.Minimize the amount of liquid or fat to reducecooking time .Use a timer rather than repeatedly removing thelid to check food. Doing so will ecrease cookingtime and save energy.Thaw foods prior to cooking to reduce cookingtime.Available AccessoriesSimmer Plate (Dacor Model# ASP10): Theoptional simmer plate s esigned to spread the heatof a burner adjusted to a low setting evenly alongthe bottom of the cooking utensil.
