6Option 1 - Connecting to a Four-WireElectrical System. (Recommended)1. Separate the green and whiteappliance wires.2. Connect the white appliance wire tothe neutral (white) supply wire in thejunction box.3. Connect the black appliance wire tothe black (L1) power supply wire in thejunction box.4. Connect the red appliance wire tothe red (L2) power supply wire in thejunction box.5. Connect the green appliance wire tothe green house grounding wire in thejunction box.Option 2 - Connecting the GreenAppliance Wire to the Neutral (White)Supply Wire – Where Local CodesPermit)WARNING:**Do not connect the greenappliance wire to the neutral(white) supply wire unless localbuilding codes permit.1. Connect the green and whiteappliance wires to the neutral (white)supply wire in the junction box.2. Connect the black appliance wire tothe black (L1) power supply wire in thejunction box.3. Connect the red appliance wire tothe red (L2) power supply wire in thejunction box.Option 3 - Connecting the GreenAppliance Wire to a Grounded SupplyWire or a Grounded Cold Water Pipe –Where Local Codes Permit1. Separate the green and whiteappliance wires.2. Connect the white appliance wire tothe neutral (white) supply wire in thejunction box.3. Connect the black appliance wire tothe black (L1) power supply wire in thejunction box.4. Connect the red appliance wire tothe red (L2) power supply wire in thejunction box.5. Connect the green appliance wire toa grounded supply wire in the junctionbox or to a grounded cold water pipe.6. If connecting to a grounded cold waterpipe, a separate copper groundingwire (No. 10 minimum) must beconnected to a grounded cold waterpipe by means of a clamp and thento an external grounding connectorscrew.7. A grounded cold water pipe musthave metal continuity to electricalground and must not be interruptedby insulating materials.
