Craftsman 48112 Operator's Manual
4FEATURES & OPERATIONNOTICE: ONLY use the handle providedwith this jack. Handle is specially designedto properly fit into handle socket and engagerelease valve.Raising the Jack• Place vehicle in park, with emergency brakeon and wheels securely chocked to ensurelifting stability.• Refer to the vehicle manufacturer owner’smanual to locate the approved vehicle liftingpoints.• Position the jack so that the saddle will firmlycontact the vehicle lifting point.• Place the open end of the handle over therelease valve so that the narrow crosspiecein the handle tip engages into the slot in thevalve. Close the release valve by turning thehandle clockwise until it stops.• Remove handle from release valve. Inserthandle into handle socket. Turn handleslightly to right to engage pin in socket slot.• Pump handle until lift arm saddle nearscontact with vehicle lifting point. Check tosee that saddle is centered and will contactlifting point firmly.• Continue to pump handle to lift vehicle todesired height.• After lifting, support the load withappropriately rated vehicle support standsbefore working on vehicle.WARNING: Never work on, under, oraround a load supported only by ahydraulic jack.Lowering the Jack• Raise load high enough to clear jack stands;then carefully remove the stands.• Remove the handle from the handle socket.Place end of handle over release valve, ensuring that metal crosspiece inserts intoslot of valve.• Carefully open the release valve by slowlyturning the handle counterclockwise. , but nomore than 1/2 full turn. Lift arm will lower.• After removing jack from vehicle, if saddlehas not fully descended, push it all theway down to reduce lift arm and power unitexposure to rust and contamination. How it worksWith Release Valve Closed• An upward stroke of the jack Handle drawsoil from the reservoir tank into the plungercavity. Hydraulic pressure holds the valveclosed, which keeps the oil in the plungercavity.• A downward stroke of the jack Handlereleases oil into the lift cylinder, which forcesthe power unit ram out. This raises thesaddle.• When the ram reaches maximum extension, oil bypasses the lift cylinder through apatended system back into the oil reservoir, protecting the jack from damage. Thisbypass system also goes into effect whenthe jack is overloaded (load exceeds 5,000lbs) to protect the jack from damage and theuser from possible serious injury.• Opening the release valve allows oil toflow back into the reservoir. This releaseshydraulic pressure on the ram, which resultsin lowering the saddle.MaintenanceTo Add Oil:• Position jack on the level ground and lowerthe saddle.• Remove the oil fill screw.• Fill the oil reservoir until oil level is just overthe top surface of the inner cylinder. Replaceoil plug.• Perform Air Purge Procedure described onpage 2.To Replace Oil:• Fully open release valve by turning handlecounterclockwise as far as it will go.• Remove the oil fill screw. Turn the jack overso that old oil will drain from the oil fill hole.• Turn the jack back over after the oil hasdrained. Refill through oil fill hole. Keep dirtand other material clear when pouring. Fillto just beneath lower rim of hole. Replace oilfill screw.• Perform Air Purge Procedure described onpage 2.Lubrication• Add lubricating oil (WD-40) to all movingparts when needed.• For light duty use, lubricate every sixmonths.• For heavy and constant use, lubrication isrecommended every month.MAINTENANCE |
