Low-kickback sawchain does not completely eliminate kickback. A low-kickback or"safety chain," should never be regarded as total protectionagainst injury.Always use a replacement saw chain designed as "low-kickback" or asaw chain which meets the low-kickback performance. A standard sawchain (a chain which does not have the kickback reducing guard links)should only be used by an experienced professional chain saw operator.Low-Kickback Saw ChainWARNING: Never remove, modify or make inoperative anysafety device furnished with your unit. The low-kickback sawchain is a major safety feature provided for your protection.WARNING: Ensure that the unit is off and the spark plugis disconnected (for gas powerheads) when working on thesaw chain. Wear heavy duty gloves too.A low-kickback saw chain is a chain which has met the kickbackperformance requirements of ANSI B175.1. Do not use other replacementchain unless it has met these requirements for your specific model. Bykeeping the saw chain in good working condition and correctly servicedas recommended in this manual, you will be able to maintain the safetysystem of your pole saw over the life of the product.Chain TensionCheck the chain tension frequently and adjust as often as necessaryto keep the chain snug on the bar, but loose enough to be pulledaround by hand. Refer to Saw Chain Tension Adjustment.Breaking in a New Saw ChainA new chain and bar will need readjustment after as few as 5 cuts. Thisis normal during the break-in period, and the interval between futureadjustments will begin to lengthen quickly. Over a period of time, however, the moving parts of the saw chain will become worn, resultingin what is called chain stretch. This is normal. When it is no longerpossible to obtain correct chain tension adjustment, it is recommendedto purchase a replacement chain at Sears or other qualified servicedealer have this repair performed.CLEANING_l_J ARNING: Never use a loop of chain that has more than I3 links removed from it. This could damage the sprocket. I• Slacken the chain if you have retensioned it at operatingtemperature during cutting work.• The chain contracts as it cools down. If it is not slackened, it maydamage the gearbox and bearings.STORAGEWait for the engine to cool down. Drain the oil tank and store themachine in a dry place well away from sources of ignition until youneed it again.• Attach the transport guard to the bar/chain before storing the unit.• Store the unit in a dry, high and/or locked location, out of thereach of children and other unauthorized persons.LONG-TERM STORAGE• Remove the saw chain and guide bar, clean them, and spray themwith corrosion inhibiting oil.• Attach the transport guard to the bar/chain before storing.I".,,re]nil= E.%WI:_n q:To]• I_V,I_ _| dApproximate Operating Weight of Attachment ..... 3.3 Ibs.
