OPERATOR SAFETYa_Read the entire Operator's Manual beforeassembling and using this unit! Restrict theuse of this unit to persons who read, under-stand, and follow the warnings and instructionsin this manual and on the unit.b.Always wear a safety face shield or gog-gles. The blade guard will not prevent rocksand debris from being thrown or ricochetinginto the eyes and face which can result in loss ofvision or serious injur_. See the '_Accessories"section.c. Always wear heavy, longpants, boots' andgloves. Do not go barefoot or wear short pants,sandals, jewelry, loose clothing, or clothing withloosely hanging straps, ties, tassels, etc.; theycan be caught in moving parts. Secure hair so itis above shoulder length. Being fully coveredwill help protect you from pieces of toxic plantssuch as poison ivy thrown by the trimmer headwhich could be more of a hazard than touchingthe plant itself.d.Do not operate this unit when you aretired, ill, or under the influence of alco-hol, drugs, or medication.e: Hold the unit firmly with both hands.2. UNITa.Inspect the entire unit before each use.Have damaged parts repaired or replaced by qu-alified service personnel. Make sure all fasten-ers are in place and securely fastened.b.Be sure the blade guard is properly at-tached. The blade guard must be installedwhen using the unit.c.Make sure the blade is properly installedand securely fastened.d.Rest rear wheels on ground, supportingblade off ground away from trees, bushes,onlookers, etc. Do not allow the blade to makecontact until you are ready to begin edging.3. EDGINGa. Inspect the area to be cut before each use.Remove objects (rocks, broken glass, nails, wire,string, etc.) which can be thrown or become en-tangled in the blade.b.Always keep the unit in front of your bod_Hold handle firmly with both hands. Figure 4.c. Keep firm footing and balance. Do notover-reach.d.Keep wheels in contact with the ground.e. Do not raise motor above your waist. Theblade can come dangerously close to your body.f. Direct the discharge of debris away_ frompeople, animals, glass, and solid objectsSUChas trees, automobiles, walls, etc. The spin-ning blade may cause rocks, dirt, sticks, etc., tobe thrown or to ricochet which may hurt peopleor animals, break glass, or cause other damage.g. Do not use edger on graveled surfaces orin extremely muddy areas.h.Always push the unit slowly over roughground. Stay alert for uneven sidewalks, holesin the terrain, or other similar conditions.i. Use only for jobs explained in this manual.Eye ProtectionB. OPERATING POSITIONYour unit has two operating positions, as follows: one foredging, one for trenching.To set the operating position, do the followin_1.
