12OPERATIONGAS AND OIL FILL-UPOil (one bottle shipped with unit)First Time Use1. Remove oil fill plug.2. With the chipper shredder on level ground, use a funnel to emptyentire contents of oil bottle provided into the engine.3. Replace oil fill plug and tighten.Subsequent UsesOnly use high quality detergent oil rated with API service classificationSF, SG, or SH. Select the oil’s SAE viscosity grade according to theexpected operating temperature. Follow the chart below.Although multi-viscosity oils (5W30, 10W30, etc.) improve startingin cold weather, they will result in increased oil consumption whenused above 32°F. Check your engine oil level more frequently to avoidpossible engine damage from running low on oil.1. Check the oil level by removing the oil fill plug and looking intothe oil fill hole. Oil should be visible up to the threads of the oil fillplug, almost to the point of overflowing. Fill if necessary. Capac-ity is approximately 28 oz. Overfilling can cause a hazardoussituation, be sure to wipe up any spilled or excess oil.2. Replace oil fill plug and tighten.3. Keep oil level at FULL. Running the engine with too little oil canresult in permanent engine damage.GasolineWARNINGUse extreme care when handling gasoline. Gasoline is extremelyflammable and the vapors are explosive. Never fuel machine indoorsor while the engine is hot or running. Extinguish cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and other sources of ignition.1. Remove fuel cap from the fuel tank.2. Make sure the container from which you will pour the gasoline isclean and free from rust or foreign particles. Never use gasolinethat may be stale from long periods of storage in its container.Gasoline that has been sitting for any period longer than fourweeks should be considered stale.3. Fill fuel tank with clean, fresh, unleaded regular gasoline only. Donot use gasoline containing METHANOL. Replace fuel cap.NOTE: Check the fuel level periodically to avoid running out of gaso-line while operating the chipper shredder. If the unit runs out of gas asit is chipping, it may be necessary to unclog the discharge area beforeit can be restarted. Refer to SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE section.TO START ENGINE1. Attach spark plug wire and rubber boot to spark plug.2. Fill tank to no more than 1/2 inch below bottom of filler neck toprovide space for fuel expansion.3. Turn the fuel shut-off valve to the ON position.4. Move the choke lever on the engine to CHOKE position. (Awarm engine may not require choking.) See Figure 10.5. Move throttle control to START/RUN (Rabbit) position. SeeFigure 10.6. Standing behind the unit, grasp starter handle and pull rope outuntil you feel a drag.Oil Viscosity Chart5W30Colder WarmerSAE30CAUTIONAlcohol blended fuels (called gasohol or using ethanol or methanol)can attract moisture which leads to separation and formation of acidsduring storage. Acidic gas can damage the fuel system of an enginewhile in storage.CAUTIONTo avoid engine problems, the fuel system should be emptied beforestorage for 30 days or longer. Drain the gas tank, start the engineand let it run until the fuel lines and carburetor are empty. Usefresh fuel next season. See STORAGE Instructions for additionalinformation.CAUTIONNever use engine or carburetor cleaner products in the fuel tank orpermanent damage may occur.STOPFigure 10 |
