5SAFETY INSTRUCTIONSAfter striking a foreign object, stop the engine, disconnect the•spark plug wire and ground against the engine. Thoroughlyinspect the lawn edger for any damage. Repair the damagebefore starting and operating the lawn edger.Never attempt to make a wheel adjustment while the engine is•running.Many components on your new edger can wear with continued•use. For safety protection, frequently check all edger componentsand replace immediately with original equipment manufacturer’s(O.E.M.) parts only, listed in this manual. “Use of parts whichdo not meet the original equipment specifications may lead toimproper performance and compromise safety!”Do not change the engine governor setting or overspeed the•engine. The governor controls the maximum safe operating speedof the engine.Maintain or replace safety and instruction labels, as necessary.•Observe proper disposal laws and regulations for used gas,•oil, etc.. Improper disposal of fluids and materials can harm theenvironment.According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC)•and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), this producthas an Average Useful Life of seven (7) years, or 70 hours ofoperation. At the end of the Average Useful Life have the machineinspected annually by an authorized service dealer to ensure thatall mechanical and safety systems are working properly and notworn excessively. Failure to do so can result in accidents, injuriesor death.do NoT ModiFY eNgiNeTo avoid serious injury or death, do not modify engine in any way.Tampering with the governor setting can lead to a runaway engine andcause it to operate at unsafe speeds. Never tamper with factory settingof engine governor.NoTiCe RegARdiNg eMiSSioNSEngines which are certified to comply with California and federalEPA emission regulations for SORE (Small Off Road Equipment) arecertified to operate on regular unleaded gasoline, and may includethe following emission control systems: Engine Modification (EM),Oxidizing Catalyst (OC), Secondary Air Injection (SAI) and Three WayCatalyst (TWC) if so equipped.SPARk ARReSToRIf a spark arrester is used, it should be maintained in effective workingorder by the operator. In the State of California the above is requiredby law (Section 4442 of the California Public Resources Code). Otherstates may have similar laws.
