STARTING THE ENGINE1. Movethe bladedepthcontrol leverbackto the STARTpositionintheadjacent(top) notch.2. Whenstartingthe enginefor the firsttime, pushprimerfive times.Forall futurestarts,pushthe primerthreetimes.See Figure6. Donot primeto restarta warm engine.NOTE:If youpushthe primertoo manytimes,excessivefuel will floodthecarburetorand the enginewill be difficultto start.3. Standingbehindthe edger,depressthe bladecontrolbail andhold it againstthe upperhandlewith your left hand.4. Withyour righthand,graspthe recoilstarterhandleand slowlypull the rope outwarduntil enginereachesthestart of its com-pressioncycle (the ropewill pull slightlyharderat this point).5. After slowlyallowingthe rope to recoil,pullthe ropewith a rapid,continuous,full arm stroke.Keepa firm grip on starterhandlethroughouttheentirestroke.Rapidretractionof startercord (kickback)will pull handand armtowardenginefasterthanyou can letgo. Brokenbones,fractures,bruisesor sprainscouldresult.6. Allowthe starterhandleto slowlyreturnto the eyebolt.fFigure6TO STOP ENGINE1. Moveedgerto an area to be edged,makingsurethat the left rearwheelis on a hard surfaceand the bladeis overthe area to becut. See Figure7.2. Withthe bladecontrolbail squeezedagainstthe handlein theoperatingposition,makea pass alongarea to be edged beforeproceedingto the next notch.Thefurtherforwardthat the bladedepthcontrolleveris moved,the deeperor lowerthe blade willcut into theground.Severalpassesmay be necessaryto obtainthedesireddepthof cut. Do not lowerblade morethanone depthnotchat a time withoutmakinga pass.Figure73. Once youhavefinishededgingselectedarea,raisethe bladedepthcontrol leverbackinto theSTARTposition,moveto the nextarea to be edged,and proceedagain from step 1.10
