13SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE1. Drain fuel from the tank by running the engine until the fuel tank isempty. Be sure the fuel fill cap is secure.NOTE: An oil drain extension kit is available separately. Contact aSears Parts and Repair Center for kit #753-06684.2. Place a suitable oil collection container under the oil drain plug.3. Remove the oil drain plug, Figure 11.4. Tip the snow thrower back to drain oil into the container. Used oilmust be disposed of at a proper collection center.5. Reinstall the drain plug and tighten it securely.6. Refill with the recommended oil and check the oil level; refer toChecking and Adding Oil in the Assembly Section.7. Reinstall the oil filler cap/dipstick securely.Spark PlugWARNINGDO NOT check for a spark with the spark plug removed. DO NOTcrank the engine with the spark plug removed.WARNINGIf the engine has been running, the muffler will be very hot. Be carefulnot to touch the muffler.The spark plug should be checked every 25 hours and changed oncea season or every 100 hours. To ensure proper engine operation, thespark plug must also be properly gapped and free of deposits.Figure 11Oil Drain Plug1. Remove the spark plug boot and use a spark plug wrench toremove the plug, Figure 12.2. Visually inspect the spark plug. Discard the spark plug if there isany apparent wear, or if the insulator is cracked or chipped. Cleanthe spark plug with a wire brush if it is to be reused.NOTE: A resistor spark plug must be used for replacement. Contacta Sears Parts and Repair Center for a replacement spark plug (Part #951-10292).3. Measure the plug gap with a feeler gauge. Correct as necessaryby bending the side electrode, Figure 13. The gap should be setto .02-.03 inches (0.60-0.80 mm).4.
