8OPERATIONTO START ENGINEMEANING OF THE SYMBOLS............................. CHOKE............................... FAST............................. SLOW• Move engine control lever to "CHOKE" position.• Grasp starter grip as illustrated and pull slowly untilresistance is felt.• Then pull cord rapidly to overcome compression. Donot allow starter rope to snap back.• Repeat if necessary with engine control lever in"FAST" position.• When engine starts, move engine control off chokeposition to desired speed.TIPSTo obtain best starting performance:• Start, store and fuel engine in a level position.• DO NOT use pressurized starting fluids as severeinternal engine damage may occur due to loss oflubrication.• Restart a warm engine with engine control lever in"FAST" position.• To improve cool weather starting (40 °F), seeSERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS section (page14).BEFORE STARTING ENGINEFUEL• Fill fuel tank with clean, fresh, unleaded gasoline.• Do not overfill tank. Allow approximately 1/4 in. oftank space for fuel expansion.• Do not mix oil with gasoline.WARNING:Experience indicates that alcohol blended fuels (cal-led gasohol or using ethanol or methanol) can attractmoisture which leads to separation and formation ofacids during storage. Acidic gas can damage the fuelsystem of an engine while storage. T oavoid engine problems, the fuel system should beemptied before storage for 30 days or longer. Drainthe fuel tank, start the engine and let it run until thefuel lines and carburetor are empty. Use fresh gaso-line next season. See STORAGE Instructions foradditional information. Never use engine carburetorcleaner products in the fuel tank or permanent damagemay occur.OILOnly use high quality detergent oil rated with APIservice classification SF or SG. Select the oil´s SAEviscosity grade according to your expected operatingtemperature:Note: Although multi-viscosity oils (5W30, 10W30etc.) improve starting in cold weather, these multi-viscosity oils will result in increased oil consumptionwhen used above 32 °F. Check your engine oil levelmore frequently to avoid possible engine damagefrom running low on oil.• Be sure that engine is level.• Remove oil dipstick.• Fill with recommended oil, to "FULL" mark on dipstick.• Pour slowly and do not overfill.(Capacity is approxi-mately 1.25 pints of oil.)• Replace oil dipstick and tighten securely.• Check oil before each use. Add if needed.
