NOTE:A noisewill be heardwhenfindingthe startof the compressioncycle. This noiseis causedby the flails and fingers, which are partofthe shreddingmechanism, and it shouldbe expecteduntilthe impellerreachesfull speed.7. Pull the ropewith a rapid, continuous, full armstroke.Keepa firmgrip on the starterhandle.Letthe rope rewindslowly.8. Repeat,if necessary, untilenginestarts.Whenenginestarts, movechokecontrolgraduallytowardthe RUNI Jt I position..9. If enginefalters, movechokecontrol backtowardthe CHOKEI'o,I positionand repeatsteps5 though8.10. ALWAYSkeepthe throttlecontrolin the START/RUNpositionwhenoperatingthe chippershredder.TO STOP ENGINE1. Movethrottlecontrolleverto slow (turtle)'_ position.Wheneverpossible,graduallyreduceenginespeedbeforestoppingengine.2. Movethrottlecontrolleverto STOPI or OFF position.3. Turnthe fuel shut-offvalveto the OFF position.4. Disconnectsparkplug wireand grounditagainsttheenginetopreventaccidentalstartingwhilethe equipmentis unattended.SHREDDINGYardwastesuchas leavesand pine needlescan be placedin thehopperfor shredding. After materialhas beenprocessedbythe shred-der blade andflails, it will be forcedout of the chutedeflector, and, ifattached, into a debriscollectionbag.Observethe followingguidelineswhenshreddingyarddebris:• Neverattemptto shredmaterialotherthan normalyarddebris(leaves, twigs, pinecones,etc.).• Avoidshreddingfibrousplants suchas tomatovines, palmfronds, etc., untiltheyare thoroughlydriedout. Freshvines do notshredwelland tend to wrapthemselvesaroundthe impellerand flails.• Placereasonableamountsof debrisintothe hopperat a time. Donot overloadthe hopper.• Allowthe materialin the hopperto be drawnintothe bladesandshreddedbeforeaddingadditionaldebristo the hopper.Failuretodue so may resultin a cloggedhopper, cloggedchute deflectorora stalledengine.CHIPPINGBranchesup to 3" in diametercan be fed intothe chipperchute.Observethe followingguidelineswhenchippingbranches:• Keepbothhandsfirmlyon the branchas youfeed it intothechipperchute.• Neverfeed morethan one branchintothe chipperchute at a time.• Neverfeed anythingotherthan branches(or wood) intothechipperchute.• Apply intermittentpressure(force,in short pulses)whilefeedinglarger(3-inchdiameter)branchesinto thechipperchute,to avoidboggingor stallingthe engine.IMPORTANT:Neverfeed brancheswith a diametergreaterthanthree (3) inches intothe chipperchute.Doingso can resultin seriousdamageto yourunit'schipperblades, flailsor impeller.NOTE:Forbest performance, alwaysoperatethe unitwith sharpchipperblades. If a noticeableloss in performanceisencounteredwhilechippingbranches, the chipperbladesshouldbe replaced.LOWERING THE HOPPER ASSEMBLY1. With one hand graspthe handleat the topof the hopperassem-blyand lift slightly.2. With the otherhand pull out on the releaserod and lowerthehopperassemblyto theground.TO EMPTY BAG1. Un-clipdrawstringand loosenbag fromchute deflectoropening.2. Emptybag and reattachto the dischargechuteopening.Pull onthe drawstringuntilthe bag is tight aroundthe chuteopeningandclip the drawstringtight againstthe chutedeflector.IMPORTANT:The flail screenis locatedinsidethe housingin thedischargearea. If the flail screenbecomesclogged, removeandcleanas instructedin the Serviceand Maintenancesection. For bestperformance,it is also importantto keepthe chipperbladessharp.13
