STARTING MAINTENANCE_ik NEVER RUN ENGINE INDOORS OR IN ENCLOSED, POORLY IVENTILATED AREAS. ENGINE EXHAUST CONTAINS]CARBON MONOXIDE, AN ODORLESS AND DEADLY GAS I(CARBON MONOXIDE IS ALSO PRESENT IN ENGINE LEXHAUST FROM LIQUID PETROLEUM (LPG) AND NATURAL|GAS FUEL SYSTEMS). |_KEEP HANDS, FEET, HAIR AND LOOSE CLOTHING AWAVFROM ANY MOVING PARTS ON ENGINE AND EQUIPMENT.WARNING --TEMPERATURE OF MUFFLER AND NEARBYAREAS MAY EXCEED 150°F (65°C). AVOID THESE AREAS.(_ Move engine control (see Figure 1) to HI Position.START ENGINE WITH PRIMER:1. Move equipment control to "FAST" or "START" if so equipped(see equipment manufacturer's instructions).2. The carburetor on your engine has been completely adjustedat the factory, When starting a cold engine, push primerbutton firmly with your thumb 3 times, allowing primer bulbto return completely to original position between pushes(figure 1). Below 55°F additional primes may be needed.NOTE: Do not use primer to restart a warm engine after ashort shutdown.3. Operate equipment control to release engine brake if soequipped (see equipment manufacturer's instructions).4. a) RECOIL STARTERS: Grasp starter handle (figure 2) andpull rope out slowly until you feel drag. Let rope rewind slowly.Pull rope with rapid, full arm stroke. Return rope slowly tooriginal position.NOTE: If engine fails to start after three pulls, repeat steps2-3 above.STOPPING(_See mower manufacturer's instructions.(_) AFTER ENGINE IS STOPPED:rIB.DISCONNECT SPAR K PLUG WIRE FROM SPARK PLUGAND ATTACH IT TO RETAINING POST (see Figure 6).NEVER STORE ENGINE WITH FU EL IN TANK INDOORSOR IN ENCLOSED, POORLY VENTILATED AREAS,WHERE FUEL FUMES MAY REACH AN OPEN FLAME,SPARK OR PILOT LIGHT AS ON A FURNACE, WATERHEATER, CLOTHES DRYER OR OTHER GASAPPLIANCE._r SPARKPOSTFigure 6SPARK PLUGWIRE_ WARNING --TEMPERATURE OF MUFFLER AND NEARBYAREAS MAY EXCEED 150°F (65°C). AVOID THESE AREAS.(_ CHECK OIL LEVEL:Check oil level every five (5) operating hours or each timeengine is used. See "3 CHECK OIL LEVEL" in "BEFORESTARTING" on Page 2.(_) CHANGE OIL:Change oil after first two (2) operating hours and every 25operating hours thereafter, more often if operated in extremelydusty or dirty conditions. Change oil while engine is still warmfrom recent runnine.A. DISCONNECT SPARK PLUG WIRE FROM SPARK PLUGAND A'I-rACH IT TO RETAINING POST (see Figure 6).B. Position equipment so engine oil drain plug is lowest pointon engine.C. Remove oil drain plug and oil fill plug to drain oil (see Figure1).D. Replace oil drain plug and tighten securely.E. Fill oil sump with recommended oil. See "OIL & FUELRECOMMENDATIONS" and "CHECK OIL LEVEL" on Page1.F. Replace oil fill plug and tighten securely.G. Connect spark plug wire to spark plug.H. Wipe up any spilled oil and/or gasoline.NOTE: If it is difficult to reach the oil drain plug, drain fuel.Remove oil fill plug and tip mower on its side. Drain oilinto a suitable container.(_ AIR CLEANER (see Figure7):f,_k NEVER RUN ENGINE WITHOUT COMPLETE AIR CLEANERINSTALLED ON ENGINE.tReplace filter once a year or more Often if used in extremelydusty or dirty conditions.DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLEAN OR OIL FILTER.Replacement filters are available at any Sears Roebuck and Co.(or Sears Canada, Inc.) Service Center. To install new filter,proceed as follows:A. Turn cover to the left (counterclockwise) and remove it andfilter from flange. Discard filter.B. Clean cover and flange thoroughly.C. Insert new filter into cover.D. Position cover and filter against flange with tab on coverinserted into lower left corner of slot in flange.E. Push cover firmly against flange and turn it tO the right(clockwise) as far as it will go. Be sure retainers are lockedaround flange.TURN COVERTO THE LEFT(COUNTER-CLOCKWISE)TO REMOVE.FLANGEFILTERSLOTCOVERRETAINERTURN COVERTO THE RIGHT(CLOCKWISE)TO TIGHTENPage 3 Figure 7 181-1227-11 |
