Placing Originals1-32Before You Start Using This Machine1Placing OriginalsPlace your originals on the platen glass or into the feeder, depending on the sizeand type of the original, and the send settings that you have specified.■ Platen GlassPlace the originals on the platen glass when scanning bound originals such as books andmagazines on heavy or lightweight originals, and transparencies.■ Feeder (DADF-P1)Place the originals into the feeder when you want to scan several originals at the sametime, and press [Start].The machine automatically scans the originals. In addition, if youset the Two-Sided Original mode, the both sides of a two-sided original can be scannedwithout the need for turning over the sheet manually.Document SizesIf you place the original on the platen glass of the iR2016 model, or if the machinecannot detect the original size, you should specify the original size after pressing(Start). If the output paper in the recipient’s machine is not equal to the scannedsize, the original image may be reduced in size or divided into smaller parts beforeit is sent.Even the iR2020 cannot always detect the size of the original if it is a non standardpaper size, such as a book. In this case, specify the size at which you want to scanthe original. (See Chapter 1, “Basic Copying Features,” in the Copying Guide.)OrientationYou can place an original either vertically or horizontally. Always align the top edgeof your original with the back edge of the platen glass (by the arrow in the top leftcorner) or the back edge of the feeder.
