23Before Using the Camera—Basic OperationsYou should always format a new memory card or one from whichyou wish to erase all images and other data.Low Level FormatWe recommend you select [Low Level Format] when you thinkthat the recording/reading speed of a memory card hasdropped. A low level format may require 2 to 3 minutes withsome memory cards.Formatting Memory CardsPlease note that formatting (initializing) a memory carderases all data, including protected images and other filetypes.1 (Set up) Menu [Format].See Menus and Settings (p. 27).2 Select [OK] and press .zTo perform a low level format, usethe button to select [Low LevelFormat] and the or buttonto add a check mark.zYou can stop formatting a cardwhen [Low Level Format] isselected by pressing the FUNC./SET button. You can stilluse a card without problem when formatting is halted, but itsdata will be erased.
