65TroubleshootingALARM Lamp Flashes Orange ALARM Lamp Flashes OrangeWhen a printer error occurs, the ALARM lamp flashes orange as shown below. The number offlashes indicates the type of error that has occurred. Count the flashes and take the appropriateaction to correct the error.Cause ActionTwo flashes: Printer is out of paper. /Paper does not feed.Reload paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder or Front Feeder and press theRESUME/CANCEL button.Three flashes: Paper jam. The paper may be jammed. Remove the jammed paper, reload paper properlyin the printer, and then press the RESUME/CANCEL button. See “Paper Jams”on page 62.Four Flashes: Ink tank is not installedproperly. / Ink may have run out.Possible causes are as follows:z If the lamp on the ink tank is not lit, the ink tank may not be installed properly.Install an appropriate ink tank.z If the lamp on the ink tank is flashing, ink may have run out.Replacing the ink tank is recommended.If printing is in progress and you want to continue printing, press theRESUME/CANCEL button with the ink tank installed. Then printing cancontinue. Replacing the ink tank is recommended after the printing. Theprinter may be damaged if printing is continued under the ink out condition.See “Replacing an Ink Tank” on page 22.NoteIf multiple ink lamps are flashing, check how fast they are flashing. Fast flashing(at about 1-second intervals) indicates the tank is empty. Contact yourCanon service representative.Seven Flashes: Ink tank is not installedin the correct position.Possible causes are as follows:z Some ink tanks are not installed in the correct position.z More than one ink tanks of the same color are installed.Confirm that the ink tanks are installed in the appropriate positions.See “Replacing an Ink Tank” on page 22.Eight flashes: Ink absorber is almostfull.The printer has a built-in ink absorber to hold the ink used during Print HeadCleaning, for example.Eight flashes indicates that the ink absorber is nearly full.Press the RESUME/CANCEL button to cancel the error so you can continueprinting.Before the ink absorber becomes completely full, contact a Canon servicerepresentative. (You will need to replace a particular part of the printer.)ImportantCanon recommends that you call for service as soon as this error occurs.
