Placing Originals1-361Introduction to Fax FunctionsNOTE• If the top edge of the original is not aligned with the back edge of the platen glass (by thearrow in the top left corner), your original may not be scanned correctly, depending on thescan and send modes that you have set.• Originals of the following sizes can be placed either vertically or horizontally. However, the scanning speed for horizontally placed originals is somewhat slower than verticallyplaced originals. Place originals horizontally when scanning with a Preset Zoom, such aswhen enlarging an LTR original onto 11" x 17" paper.• Horizontally placed LTR and STMT originals are referred to as LTRR and STMTR.• 11" x 17" and LGL originals must be placed horizontally.Platen GlassYou should use the platen glass when scanning bound originals (such as booksand magazines), heavy or lightweight originals, and transparencies. (See"Document Size," on p. 3-21.)NOTEThe machine automatically detects the size of the following originals: 11" x 17", LGL,LTR, and LTRR.1 Lift the feeder/platen cover.IMPORTANTThis machine is equipped with an open/close sensor on the feeder/platen cover(see circled area in the above illustration). When placing originals on the platenglass, lift the feeder/platen cover approximately 11 7/8" (300 mm) so that thesensor detaches from the feeder/platen cover. If the sensor does not detach fromthe feeder/platen cover, the size of the originals may not be detected correctly.- Platen glass: LTR, STMT- Feeder: LTR, STMT
