97Autofocus can fail to achieve focus (viewfinder’s focus confirmation light<o> blinks) with certain subjects such as the following:Very low-contrast subjects(Example: Blue skies, solid-color flat surfaces, etc.)Subjects in very low lightExtremely backlit and reflective subjects(Example: Cars with highly reflective bodies, etc.)Near and far subjects covered by an AF point(Example: Animals in cages, etc.)Repetitive patterns(Example: Skyscraper windows, computer keyboards, etc.)In such cases, do either of the following:(1) With One-Shot AF, focus on an object at the same distance as thesubject and lock the focus before recomposing the shot (p.59).(2) Set the lens’s focus mode switch to <MF> and focus manually.1 Set the lens’s focus mode switchto .2 Focus on the subject.Focus by turning the lens’s focusingring until the subject looks sharp inthe viewfinder.Subjects Difficult to FocusMF: Manual FocusFor subjects difficult to focus during Live View shooting with [FlexiZone -Single] and [uLive mode], see page 146.Focusing ringIf you press the shutter button halfway during manual focusing, the AF pointachieving focus will light up briefly in red, the beeper will sound, and thefocus confirmation light <o> in the viewfinder will light up.
