85Shooting• You are recommended to set the shooting mode to and theexposure compensation setting to zero (±0) before setting a customwhite balance. The correct white balance may not be obtained whenthe exposure setting is incorrect (image appears completely blackor white).• Shoot with the same settings as when reading the white balancedata. If the settings differ, the optimal white balance may not be set.In particular, the following should not be changed.- ISO Speed- FlashSetting the flash to on or off is recommended. If the flash fireswhen reading the white balance data with the flash set to (Autowith Red-Eye Reduction) or (Auto), make sure that you alsouse the flash when you shoot.• Since the white balance data cannot be read in Stitch Assist mode,preset the white balance before selecting in the (Rec.)menu.• The camera will retain the manual white balance setting that yourecord even if you reset the camera to the default settings (p. 54).3 Aim the camera at the white paper,cloth or gray card and press theMENU button.• Compose the image so the paper or clothcompletely fills the center frame in thedisplay before pressing the MENU button.The white data records when you pressthe MENU button.The camera reads thewhite balance data when you press theMENU button.• You can shoot right after selecting anoption. The menu displays again after theshot, allowing you to change the settingseasily.4 Press the SET/FUNC. button.The display will return to the shootingscreen.
