Installation, Operation & Maintenance Manual Bosch 96% AFUE Gas Furnace | 17Bosch Thermotechnology Corp. | 04.2019 Data subject to change7.3 Condensate Line and Over Flow Pressure SwitchNOTICE For horizontal left hand installation (air discharge to theleft), condensate overflow pressure switch hoses need tobe rerouted (see Figure 17).To achieve higher energy efficiency than non-condensing furnaces, condensingfurnaces will generate a signifi cant amount of condensate water from combustionto recover latent heat in the fl ue. Condensate generated from the fl ue must becollected and discharged to the drain line. For some venting directions andfurnace installations, rerouting of the condensate and/or overfl ow pressure switchhoses may be required. Follow the instructions below and Figures 13-17 for eachinstallation.Follow the information listed below when installing the drain system. Refer to thefollowing sections for specifi c details concerning furnace drain trap installation anddrain hose hook ups. The drain trap supplied with the furnace must be used. The drain line between furnace and drain location must be constructedof 3/4” PVC or CPVC. Ensure that the condensate hose connections between the pressureswitches/inducer drain port and the condensate trap are slopeddownward toward the drain to allow for proper drainage. The drain line between furnace and drain location must maintain a 1/4"per foot downward slope toward the drain. Do not trap the drain line in any other location than at the drain trapsupplied with the furnace. Do not route the drain line outside where it may freeze.7.3.1 Standard Right-Hand or Left-Hand Side Drain Hose ConnectionsFigure 12DRAIN TRAPMOUNTINGBRACKETФ16 mm HOSEФ14 mm HOSEOptional Ф14 mm ELBOWOptional Ф16 mm ELBOWDRAIN TRAP Ф21 mmHOSECLAMPSФ18 mmHOSECLAMPSINCOMINGGAS PIPERUBBER GASKETIncluded Accessories for Condensate Drain Trap Installation* Only used when exhaust pipe is vented out of the side of the furnace's cabinet(regardless of installation orientation). If the drain line is routed through an area which may seetemperatures near or below freezing, precautions must be takento prevent condensate from freezing within the drain line. In thisscenario, it is recommended to add foam insulation around thedrain line, and heat tracing may also be necessary based on theapplication. If an air conditioning coil is installed with the furnace, a common drainmay be used. An open tee must be installed in the drain line, near thecooling coil, to relieve positive air pressure from the coil’s plenum. This is necessary to prohibit any interference with the function of thefurnace’s drain trap.NOTICE The condensate from this unit is acidic, adhere to all localand national codes when draining condensate. If properprocedures are not followed, this may lead to propertydamage.NOTICE Condensate trap at furnace must be PRIMED for properdraining may not occur. The condensate trap can ONLYbe primed by pouring water into the inducer drain side ofcondensate trap.
