Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment orbinding of moving parts, breakage of parts and anyother condition that may affect the power toolsoperation. If damaged, have the power tool repairedbefore use. Many accidents are caused by poorlymaintained power tools.f. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properlymaintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are lesslikely to bind and are easier to control.g. Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. inaccordance with these instructions, taking intoaccount the working conditions and the work to beperformed. Use of the power tool for operations differentfrom those intended could result in a hazardous situation.h. Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean andfree from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasingsurfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of thetool in unexpected situations.5. Servicea. Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repairperson using only identical replacement parts. Additional safety warnings forchainsawsKeep all parts of the body away from the saw chainwhen the chainsaw is operating. Before you startthe chainsaw, make sure the saw saw chain is notcontacting anything. A moment of inattention whileoperating chain saws may cause entanglement of yourclothing or body with the chain saw.Always hold the chainsaw with your right hand on therear handle and your left hand on the front handle.Holding the chainsaw with a reversed hand configurationincreases the risk of personal injury and should never bedone.Hold the chain saw by insulated gripping surfacesonly, because the saw chain may contact hiddenwiring. Saw chains contacting a "live" wire may makeexposed metal parts of the chain saw "live'" and could givethe operator an electric shock.Wear eye protection. Further protective equipment forhearing, head, hands, legs and feet is recommended.Adequate protective equipment will reduce personal injuryfrom flying debris or accidental contact with the saw chain.Do not operate a chain saw in a tree, on a ladder, froma rooftop, or any unstable support. Operation of a chainsaw in this manner could result in serious personal injury.Always keep proper footing and operate the chain sawonly when standing on fixed, secure and level surface.Slippery or unstable surfaces such as ladders may causea loss of balance or control of the chainsaw.When cutting a limb that is under tension be alertfor spring back. When the tension in the wood fibres isreleased the spring loaded limb may strike the operatorand/or throw the chain saw out of control.Use extreme caution when cutting brush and saplings.The slender material may catch the saw chain and bewhipped toward you or pull you off balance.Carry the chain saw by the front handle with the chainsaw switched off and away from your body.When transporting or storing the chainsaw always fitthe guide bar cover. Proper handling of the chain sawwill reduce the likelihood of accidental contact with themoving saw chain.Follow instructions for lubricating, saw chain tension-ing and changing the bar and saw chain. Improperlytensioned or lubricated saw chain may either break orincrease the chance for kickback.Cut wood only. Do not use chainsaw for purposes notintended. For example: do not use the chainsaw forcutting metal, plastic, masonry or non-wood buildingmaterials. Use of the chainsaw for operations differentthan intended could result in a hazardous situation.Do not attempt to fell a tree until you have an under-standing of the risks and how to avoid them. Seriousinjury could occur to the operator or bystanders whilefelling a tree.Follow all instructions when clearing jammed material,storing or servicing the chain saw. Make sure the toolis disconnected from the power supply. Unexpectedactuation of the chain saw while clearing jammed materialor servicing may result in serious personal injury.Wear close fitting and protective clothing including asafety helmet with visor/goggles, ear protectors, non- skidsafety footwear, protective bib trousers and strong leathergloves.Always position yourself out of the path of fallingbranches.The safe distance between a branch to be felled andbystanders, buildings and other objects is at least 2 1/2times the length of the branch. Any bystander, building orobject within this distance is at risk from being struck bythe falling branch.Pre-plan a safe exit from falling branches. Ensure the exitroute is clear of obstacles that would prevent or hindermovement. Remember wet grass and freshly cut bark isslippery. |
