ENGLISH • 19Using the router (Fig. D and E)1. Make sure that the material to be cut is clampeddown and is stable enough to support the routerduring operation.2. Move clockwise when cutting inside edges.See Fig. E.Feeding Speed and Rate of CutVariation between materials and bit configurations dictatesa wide variety of feed rates. Experience is the bestmeasure for determining feed rate. Become familiar withthe sound and feel of the router by making practice cuts inscrap material. The router bit rotates at a very high speed and may heatup if the router is moved too slowly through the wood andcause burn marks. Feeding the router too fast or trying toremove too much material in a single pass will overloadthe motor. Use two or more passes for extra-large cuts(over 1/8” deep), especially in hard woods.Hints for optimum useWhen working on outside edges, move the tool counterclockwise (Fig. E). When working on inside edges, movethe tool clockwise.f Use pilot (ball bearing) router bits for edge profilecutting.f Use HSS (high speed steel) router bits for softwood.f Use TCT (tungsten carbide tipped) router bits forhardwood.f Not recommended for plunge cutting.MAINTENANCEUse only a dry cloth to clean the tool.
