Pay particular attention to all Notices, Cautions, Warnings, and Dangers.5Battery Removal and ReplacementRemove battery hold downs and cables. Lift outbatteries with a commercially available liftingdevice. If the batteries have been cleaned and any acidin the battery rack areas neutralized as recom-mended, no corrosion to the battery racks or sur-rounding area should be present. Any corrosionfound should be immediately removed with aputty knife and a wire brush. The area should bewashed with a solution of sodium bicarbonate(baking soda) and water and thoroughly driedbefore priming and painting with a corrosionresistant paint. The batteries should be placed into the batteryracks and the battery hold downs tightened to 45- 55 in. lbs. (5 - 6 Nm) torque, to prevent move-ment but not tight enough to cause distortion ofthe battery cases.Inspect all wires and terminals. Clean any corro-sion from the battery terminals or the wire termi-nals with a solution of sodium bicarbonate(baking soda) and brush clean if required.Use care to connect the battery wires as shown.Tighten the battery post hardware to 90 - 100 in.lbs. (6 -8 Nm) torque. Do not over-torque the ter-minal stud nut, this will cause a “mushroom”effect on the battery post which will prevent the terminal nut from being properly tightened.Protect the battery terminalsand battery wire terminals with a commercially available coating. To prevent battery explosion that could result in severe personal injury or death, extreme caremust be used with aerosol containers of battery terminal protectant. Insulate the metal containerto prevent the metal can from contacting battery terminals which could result in an explosion. To Slow Blow FuseTo Controller B-3412BATTERY CONNECTIONS
