TheEZRest offers many of the same feature, butat a much lower cost. The EZRest has ablack powder coated finish, a fixed frame,and a wide range of back pad adjustments.EZRest is designed for use by the Passengeron any motorcycle that has a BestRestCargoRest. (R1150R Roadster shown)EZRest is also designed for use on theR11xxGS with the stock passenger grab rail.A CargoRest is NOT required for thisapplication, but may still be used if desired.Thank you for purchasing a BestRestBackRest! If you have problems withinstallation or operation of the EZRest pleasecall us at the number on the letterhead.Ride safe and God Bless!David & Judy PetersenFOR PROPER INSTALLATION & SAFEOPERATION, PLEASE READ ALL OFTHESE INSTRUCTIONSUnpack the EZRest BackRest Assembly andparts package. You’ll find the following parts:Qty Description Fits model4 M5x20 button head screws All8 #10 flat washers All4 M5 nylon locknuts All1 3mm hex “allen” wrench All1 5mm hex “allen” wrench All2 M5x35 button head screws R11xxGS4 #10 flat washers R11xxGS2 M5 nylon locknuts R11xxGSAdditional tools needed for installation:1 – 8mm open end wrench (in your toolkit)1 – 10mm open end wrench (in your toolkit)After installation is complete, you’ll want tokeep the 10mm box wrench and 5mm allenwrench handy for BackRest adjustmentswhen you’re on the road. You may wish topurchase BestRest’s 5mm HexKeyRing, it’sonly ¾” long and fits on your motorcycle keyring. Cost is $10.Note: We recommend use of a semi-permanent thread-locking compound on allscrews and nuts. “Blue Thread Lock” or asimilar product will prevent screws fromloosening due to vibration. Do NOT usepermanent (red) compounds.Installing the EZRest - on a CargoRestTo install the EZRest for passenger use, youmust have previously installed a BestRestCargoRest. Refer to your CargoRest FitKitfor instructions on how to properly mount theCargoRest. All 3 models of CargoRest (C, J,and T) will work with the EZ Rest. Installationprocedures are the same for all models.Place the EZRest on the CargoRest. Thecutout will fit over the BestRest logo, and the4 holes on the bottom will line up with theholes in the CargoRest.Insert a 5mm screw (with washer) into eachof these four holes. The screws will pass thruthe CargoRest and FitKit mounting plate.Attach a flat washer and a 5mm nylon locknutto the ends of these screws, from theunderside. Tighten securely. Complete thefinal tightening process by turning the nutfrom the underside - if you turn the hex headyou’ll strip the socket. Use common senseand do not over-tighten.Installation is complete!Installing the EZRest – on the R11xxGSThe EZRest will fit on the R11xxGS, with thestock luggage rack or with a CargoRest.If mounting the EZRest onto a CargoRest,follow the instructions above. Then screw theEZRest to the grab rail, following theinstructions in the following paragraphs.If you don’t have a CargoRest on your GS,the stock passenger grab rail must be inplace. Check that the 6mm screws holdingthe grab rail are tight. The grab rail must notwiggle or otherwise be loose.Above photo shows the stock luggage rackand passenger grab rail. Make sure thesetwo screws are tight. They hold the rail inplace and also hold up the taillight assembly.Hint: To protect the finish on your stockluggage rack and grab rail, we suggestCheckscrews andnuts dailyWithout CargoRestWith CargoRestNote: On some early production CargoRests, itmay be necessary to drill two additional ¼”holes in the CargoRest. A drilling template hasbeen provided so hole placement is made easy.Warning: The M5 screws and nuts shouldbe checked on a frequent (daily) basis toconfirm they’re secure, since they holdthe BackRest in place on the motorcycle.Loose screws could result in vehicledamage or Rider/Passenger injury. |
