1Quick Start GuideAVC6 Fume Hood Control System Models: AVC6, FHM3, VSS-50 and HSS1-xxThis Quick Start Guide provides the basic steps required for theinstallation, wiring and start-up of the AVC6 Fume Hood ControlSystem. For details, refer to the individual product SubmittalDrawings, User Manuals and Job-Specific Requirements.APPLICATIONThe AVC6 Fume Hood Control System is comprised of theaward-winning AccuValve®, Model AVC6, paired with adedicated Fume Hood Controller Display Module, Model FHM3.For VAV applications sash sensors are provided for precisemeasurement of the fume hood face open area. For CAVapplications sash switches can be used to change the airflowvolume set point to achieve energy savings. The followingdiagram shows the main components of the AVC6 Fume HoodControl System.STEP 1: INSTALLATIONCAUTION: Wear eye protection, cut resistantgloves and clothing suitable for working withsheet metal. Failure to do so may result inpersonal injury.1a. Install AVC6 AccuValveSelect a location in close proximity to the fumehood and install the valve per the AVC6 SubmittalDrawing and Manual.Verify the Airflow Direction Label located on thevalve is positioned in agreement with the exhaustairflow direction of the duct and the controller isaccessible for wiring.1b. Install FHM3 ModuleInstall the FHM3 into a single-gang electrical box located onthe front of the fume hood. Besure to select a location thatprovides unobstructed accessfor the user and is clearlyvisible so the display can beeasily viewed.If the fume hood doesnot have a preinstalledelectrical box available,then one will need to beinstalled.1c. Install Sash SensorsVertical Sash Sensor (VSS): Select a suitable location to attachthe retractable cable to the fume hood sash or counterweightsystem per the VSS-50 Installation Drawing.CAUTION: Do not allow the wire rope to “snap back” into thereel or damage to the part or personal injury can result.After securing the VSS to the fume hood and attaching theretractable cable, verify operation by slowly raising and loweringthe sash while observing the VSS and retractable cable to ensurethe wire rope extends and retracts straight and withoutinterference.Horizontal Sash Sensor System: Install the Panel Magnets andHSS onto the fume hood per the instructions provided in theManual. Use the HSSK Horizontal Sash Kit to manage the cablesto prevent them from getting damaged. Due to variations in fumehood construction, custom brackets may be required.STEP 2: WIRINGConnections to the AVC6 Control Module will vary depending onthe application requirements. The below diagram is provided as ageneral reference only.
