9112i IP Phone User Guide 13Making Calls Making CallsThis section describes ways tomake calls on your 9112i phone,using your handset, speakerphone,or headset.Dialing a NumberFirst, take the phone off-hook bylifting the handset, or by pressingq. At the dial tone, enter thenumber you wish to call. If you areunable to make calls within certainarea codes, check with your systemadministrator for any tollrestrictions placed on yourextension that may restrict youraccess to long distance area codesor dialing prefixes.When your party picks up, a timerappears on your display thatrecords the length of your call.Using Handsfree SpeakerphoneThe Handsfree feature allows youto speak to someone without usingthe handset or headset. Yourphone must be in either theSpeaker, Speaker/Headset orHeadset/Speaker Audio Mode.You can set your desired audiomode through #7. HeadsetSettings in the Options list. Formore information, see the section"Customizing Your Phone" in the9112i Installation Guide.• To dial using handsfree, firstpress q and enter a num-ber at the dial tone.• To answer a call on your phoneusing handsfree, press q.• If you are in Speaker audiomode, lift the handset and pressq to switch betweenhandsfree and handset.• If you are in Speaker/Headsetaudio mode, press q toswitch between handsfree andheadset.• When handsfree is on, thespeaker light turns on.Using a HeadsetThe 9112i accepts headsets throughthe modular RJ9 jack on the back ofthe phone. Contact your telephoneequipment retailer or distributor topurchase a compatible headset.Note: Customers should read andobserve all safety recommenda-tions contained in headset oper-ating guides when using anyheadset.Advanced Volume Controls forthe Headset MicOn the 9112i, there are 3 optionsfor the headset microphonevolume.To change the volume:1 Press I to enter theOptions list.2 Use V to scroll down the list ofoptions to Headset Settings andpress U to select.3 Press V to scroll down to head-set/mic volume and press U toselect.4 Use V to scroll down the listand press U to select yourdesired volume.5 Press U to save changes and Tto exit.6 If you do not wish to savechanges, press T to return tothe previous screen.Note: By default, the volume for theheadset microphone is set tomedium.
