PRODUCT OVERVIEWThe Total Access 850 system (see Figure 1) is anintegrated access device designed for cost-effectivedeployment of voice and data services at the customer’spremises. The Total Access 850 system benefitsintegrated communications providers, such as CLECs,ILECs, and ISPs, who require a customer premisesdevice that integrates voice and data functions, andprovides a viable migration path from TDM to packet-based technology. The Total Access 850 features remotemanagement, an integrated IP router, and specialservices slots.Figure 1. Total Access 850The Total Access 850 is a modular device, with twocommon slots and eight access slots. Common cardsrequired for operation are a power supply unit (PSU)and a system controller. System controllers include abank controller unit (BCU) (L1 and L2) and a routercontrol unit (RCU). The RCU includes a wide areanetwork interface (T1 or SDSL), DSX-1 PBX interface,Nx56/64 V.35 interface, and built-in IP router. Sixaccess slots allow the user to combine a variety of voiceand data services. Up to six Quad FXS or Quad FXOaccess modules can be installed to support up to 24analog voice lines. Other access modules for dataapplications include the OCU DP (only supported inthe BCU) and ISDN U-BR1TE. The other access slots areused for Nx56/64 module with the BCU, the EchoCancellation card for use with the T1 ATM RCU, andthe DSX-1 card used with the T1 TDM RCU.Using local or remote inband management, carriers canturn features, functions, and access ports on and off.Easy access to modules, common cards, powersupplies, and the battery back-up system simplifymaintenance procedures. Hot-swappable modules maybe replaced without disrupting other units. The four-circuit-per-module design ensures that only fouranalog circuits are affected when replacing a module.NOTEThis is not an operational manual.
