The NetVanta ® 3430 is a modular accessrouter that uses RapidRoute technology todeliver the high-packet throughput requiredfor IP telephony, corporate connectivity, andInternet access. This performance-enhancedplatform delivers wire-speed throughput, evenwith advanced services enabled like Quality ofService (QoS), NAT, firewall, and VPN.Modular HardwareThe NetVanta 3430 is a modular, 1U-high,rackmountable metal chassis that offers two10/100Base-T Ethernet interfaces for WANaccess LAN segmentation, DMZ, or evenbroadband backup. The single slot housesany of the NetVanta Series Network InterfaceModules (NIMs) and Dial Backup InterfaceModules (DIMs). For dial backup, an analogmodem DIM or an ISDN BRI DIM is avail -able, preventing downtime by dialing around afailed circuit to any PPP-compliant device.Standards ProtocolsComplementing the versatile hardware,the AOS allows for the support of standards-based switching, Virtual LAN (VLAN) tagging,static and default routes, and demand routing.This enables fast, accurate network conver -gence using routing protocols such as BGP,OSPF, and RIP. In addition, the AOS terminatesMPLS, Frame Relay, Multilink Frame Relay,PPP, Multilink PPP, and HDLC Wide AreaNetwork (WAN) protocols. Multihoming isalso available to provide redundant or backupWAN links to multiple ISPs, guaranteeing awide-area connection.QoSQoS is also supported for delay-sensitive trafficlike VoIP or video. To prioritize mission-criticaltraffic and control network congestion, theNetVanta 3430 uses Low Latency Queuing,Weighted Fair Queuing (WFQ), Class-basedWFQ, and DiffServ marking to establish thepriority of IP packets routed over the WAN.NetVanta 3430Modular Access Router VoIP ReadyIn combination with the QoS features, aspecialized SIP ALG allows SIP traffic totraverse NAT-enabled firewalls. For enterprisenetworks, this interoperability allows IP PBXs,phones, and other SIP-based devices to setup, tear down, and pass voice and call controlmessages seamlessly through the integralNAT-enabled firewall.The NetVanta 3430 also deploys VQM tocapture MOS, jitter, delay, and packet lossstatistics necessary to troubleshoot VoIP callsover the WAN. This powerful, yet graphicallyintuitive, diagnostic tool allows for quickisolation of network issues to ensuresuperior call quality.SecurityThe AOS provides a powerful, high perfor -mance stateful inspection firewall that canidentify and protect against common Denialof Service (DoS) attacks like TCP syn flooding,IP spoofing, ICMP redirect, ping of death, andIP reassembly problems.In addition, the AOS is capable of providingan inherent URL-filtering package withoutthe use of an external server. URL-filtering isanother level of security that allows systemadministrators to restrict Internet access bypermitting or denying specific URLs. ThisURL filtering feature also includes the abilityto produce top website reports of the mostfrequently requested websites, allowingsystem administrators to modify the URLfilter lists.The NetVanta 3430 also supports up to 500simultaneous IPSec VPN tunnels and encryp -tion algorithms like DES, 3DES, and AES.
