Used primarily forremote access, the NetVanta 2050 and 2054are perfect for work-at-home telecommutersneeding to have a secure connection back tocorporate resources. Based on the ADTRANOperating System (AOS), the NetVanta 2050and 2054 provide key security and dataprotection features such as IPSec VPNtunneling, stateful inspection firewall, IProuting, Network Address Translation (NAT),and even a DHCP server. The 2050 and 2054support the same features and perform thesame functions, but the 2054 adds a built-infour-port 10/100Base-T Ethernet switch.SecurityOn a public infrastructure like the Internet,security is of the utmost importance. TheNetVanta 2050 and 2054 employs a statefulinspection firewall that protects an organiza-tion’s network from common Denial ofService (DoS) attacks including TCPsynflooding, IP spoofing, ICMP redirect, ping-of-death, and IP reassembly problems.For the telecommuter that needs adedicated firewall without corporate VPNaccess, the NetVanta 2050 and 2054 offera firewall only version. The firewall onlyversions offer the same basic features,without IPSec VPN tunneling, encryptionand authorization.VPN TunnelingThe NetVanta 2050 and the 2054 are IPSec-compliant devices that provide securecommunications over potentially unsecurenetworks. As security gateways, both theNetVanta 2050 and 2054 supports up to fivesimultaneous VPN tunnels and up to 15 userson the LAN, while supporting encryptionalgorithms including DES, 3DES, and AES.In addition, these devices support IKE(Internet Key Exchange) and X.509 digitalcertificates for user authentication.ManagementNetVanta’s web-based GUI or CLI can be usedfor secure local or remote configuration ofany NetVanta 2050 and 2054. For a central-ized, enterprise-wide management scheme,ADTRAN offers n-Command ™, an intuitive,scalable software suite for managing largerNetVanta deployments and features robustproductivity tools to effectively manage adistributed network. To administer useraccounts, the NetVanta 2050 and 2054 utilizesXAUTH using RADIUS and RSA SecurID tomanage administration account lists. Thesedevices also offer built-in alert and loggingmechanisms to warn administrators aboutactivities that are going on in the network.Quality of Service (QoS)QoS is also supported for delay sensitivetraffic like VoIP or video. To prioritizemission critical traffic and control networkcongestion, the NetVanta 2050/2054 usesLow Latency Queuing, Weighted FairQueuing (WFQ), Class-based WFQ, andDiffServ marking to establish priority ofIP packets routed over the network.VoIP ReadyIn combination with the QoS features, aspecialized SIP Application Layer Gateway(ALG) allows SIP traffic to traverse NAT-enabled firewalls.
