414. Do not install exhaust vent where flueproducts can be drawn into adjacent buildingopenings such as windows, doors, or fresh airintakes. Location should minimize thenumber of elbows or turns in vent pipe.5. Do not install unit where it may exposed topotentially explosive or flammable vapors.6. Do not locate unit in areas where corrosivevapors (such as chlorinated, halogenated, oracidic) are present in the atmosphere or canbe mixed with combustion air enteringheater.Condensate Drain PipingUnit may be equipped with a high efficiencygas heater which requires a condensate drainsystem. The condensate drain system includes afactory installed condensate trap for propersystem performance. The ¾” PVCcondensate connection is located on the frontof the unit. See Figure 5 for unit orientation.Figure 29 - Gas Heat Condensate TrapAll connecting joints must be watertight toprevent leakage. Glue the necessary PVCpipe and fittings to connect condensatepiping to a suitable drain. Be sure to applysealant to threads to prevent leakage.Installation of a union ahead of the trap ispreferred to permit maintenance of drains andaccommodate servicing of the heater.Never connect condensate drain directlyinto a sewer line. If connection to a sewer ispermitted by code, drain line must terminatein an open sewer tap (separated by an airgap).Where condensate drains are located outsidea heated space or in a space wheretemperatures may fall below freezing, thedrain line must be freeze protected. The drains must be extended through theheater base and into the heated space belowto prevent freezing of condensate in the drainpiping. Trap must be located in a heatedspace or protected to avoid freezing.Where condensate drains are located outsidea heated space or in a space wheretemperatures may fall below freezing, thedrain line must be protected. Use a 2.5 to 5watt per foot (0.003 to 0.005 kW per meter)at 115 VAC, 40 °F (4.4 °C) self-regulating,shielded and waterproof heat tape. Wrap thedrain trap and drain line with heat tape andsecure with ties. For installations where the building drainlines are above the level of the furnace drainsystem, a condensate pump is required.Condensate NeutralizationSome municipalities require that the acidiccondensate produced be neutralized beforebeing discharged into a sewer or drain.A field provided and installed condensateneutralizer kit may be necessary. Wherecondensate drains and/or neutralization kit(s)are located outside a heated space or in aspace where temperatures may fall belowfreezing, all components and drain lines mustbe freeze protected.
