3APOLLO 5 AMP AC CURRENT METER INPUTSSignal WiringAC signal wires are connected to Terminals 3 and4. If AC signal current greater than 5 amps is goingto be applied, the appropriate size slow blow fuseshould be installed.CAUTION: The APLIT is intended to beused with a 5 amp AC current transformer.Use without a current transformer willplace the meter’s input and output terminalsat the measured circuit’s potential.CAUTION: It is recommended that thecurrent transformer be internally protectedor to provide a voltage clamping circuitpreventing dangerous high voltage acrossthe CT secondary windings in case ofaccidental opening of the secondary outputleads when the primary is energized. If thisprotection is not provided when connectingCT secondary to ground, then it must bedone at the meter.CURRENT MEASUREMENT USING A CURRENT TRANSFORMERThe Apollo 5 amp AC Current Meter is configured by simply connecting the“COMM.” (Terminal 3) and the “5 A” (Terminal 4) to the external currenttransformer. The current carrying wire to be sensed is passed through the centerof the current transformer. The resolution of the display, in this case, is 0.1 amp, therefore “D.P.1” is selected. The Apollo is now ready to be calibrated. The installer has access to a portabledigital current meter capable of measuring up to 200 amps. Calibration will beaccomplished by causing the Apollo indicator to agree with the portable digitalcurrent meter. The operator turns on the AC motor and lifts a large weight to loadthe motor. The installer then simply adjusts the “Coarse” scaling adjustment, located at the rear of the unit, until the display is close in value to that indicatedon the portable current meter. He then removes the “fine” scaling access plug andadjusts the “fine” scaling adjustment until the display agrees with the portablecurrent meter. He then replaces the access plug to keep dust out of the Apollo. The Apollo 5 amp Current Meter will now indicate the load current of the motorprecisely.INSTALLATION ENVIRONMENTThe unit should be installed in a location that does not exceed the maximumoperating temperature and provides good air circulation. Placing the unit neardevices that generate excessive heat should be avoided. The bezel should be cleaned only with a soft cloth and neutral soap product.Do NOT use solvents. Continuous exposure to direct sunlight may acceleratethe aging process of the bezel.InstallationThe unit meets NEMA 4/IP65 requirements for indoor use when properlyinstalled. The units are intended to be mounted into an enclosed panelTwo mounting clips and screws are provided for easy installation.Consideration should be given to the thickness of the panel. A panel which istoo thin may distort and not provide a water-tight seal. (Recommendedminimum panel thickness is 1/8”.)After the panel cut-out has been completed and deburred, carefully slide thegasket over the rear of the unit to the panel. Insert the unit into the panel. Asdepicted in the drawing, install the screws into the clips until the pointed endjust protrudes through the other side. Install each of the two mounting clips byinserting the wide lip of the clips into the wide end of the hole, located oneither side of the case. Then snap the clip onto the case. Tighten the screwsevenly to apply uniform compression, thus providing a water-tight seal.Caution: Only minimum pressure isrequired to seal panel. Do NOTover tighten screws.TROUBLESHOOTINGFor further technical assistance, contact technical support at the numbers listed on the back cover of the instruction manual. |
