For assistance or additionalinformation consult a qualified installer, serviceagency, distributor, or branch. The qualified installer oragency must use only factory authorized kits oraccessories when modifying this product.• Your heat pump system should never be operatedwithout a clean air filter properly installed. Plan to inspectthe filter periodically. A clogged air filter will increaseoperating costs and shorten the life of the unit.• Supply-air and return-air registers should not beblocked. Drapes, furniture, and toys are some of theitems commonly found obstructing grilles. Restrictedairflow lessens the unit's efficiency and life span.• Outdoor units must have unrestricted airflow. Do notcover the unit, lean anything against it, or stand upon it.Do not allow grass clippings, leaves, or other debris toaccumulate around or on top ofthe unit. Maintain a 10-in.minimum clearance between the outdoor unit and tallgrass, vines, shrubs, et cetera.• Your multi-purpose indoor thermostat is the controlcenter for your heat pump system. You should familiarizeyourself with its proper operation. Attempting to controlthe system by other means - for instance, switching theelectrical supply power ON and OFF - may causedamage to the unit.• Thermostat "jiggling" causes rapid-cycling, which ispotentially damaging to the compressor. Do not move thetemperature selector on the thermostat for any reason forat least 5 minutes after the compressor has shut off.• You may find that you can maintain greater personalcomfort by running the fan continuously. Air pockets canform due to the structure of the building, placement ofregisters, et cetera. These air pockets may be too cool orwarm for your liking. Continuous fan operation minimizesany temperature differences. Also, systems equippedwith electronic air cleaners and/or humidifiers offer theadded benefits of having the air continuously cleanedyear-round, and humidified during the winter season.• Your heat pump will remove humidity from your homeduring the cooling season. After a few minutes ofoperation, you should be able to see water trickle from thecondensate drain of the cooling coil. Check thisoccasionally to be sure the drain system is not clogged.Of course, don't expect to see much drainage if you live ina very dry environment.SAFETY CONSIDERATIONSInstallation and servicing of air-conditioning equipmentcan be hazardous due to system pressure and electricalcomponents. Only trained and qualified personnel shouldinstall, repair, or service air-conditioning equipment.Untrained personnel can perform basic maintenancefunctions of cleaning coils and filters. All other operationsshould be performed by trained service personnel. Whenworking on air-conditioning equipment, observeprecautions in the literature, tags, and labels attached tothe unit, and other safety precautions that may apply.Follow all safety codes. Wear safety glasses and workgloves. Use quenching cloth for unbrazing operations.Have fire extinguisher available for all brazing operations.FIRE AND ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARDImproper installation, adjustment, alteration, service,maintenance, or use can cause fire or an explosionwhich could result in personal injury or unit damage.Consult a qualified installer, service agency, or gassupplier for information or assistance. The qualifiedinstaller or agency must use only factory-authorized kitsor accessories when modifying this product.FIRE, AND ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARDFailure to follow this warning could result in personalinjury, death and/or property damage.Before performing service or maintenance operationson unit, turn off gas supply to unit. Then turn off unit mainpower switch and install lockout tag. |
