OPERATIONAL GUIDEOPERATIONAL GUIDEOPERATIONAL GUIDEOPERATIONAL GUIDEOPERATIONAL GUIDEMEASUREMENT PROCEDURE• Turn the meter on by pressing ON/OFF.Note: for best results perform your testsbetween 20-24°C.• When the LCD displays "- - -", it isready.• Fill two graduated beakers with 25 mL of sample.• Add 1.0 mL of HI 93737A reagentto one beaker (the blank) and swirlgently to mix.• Add 1.0 mL of HI 93737B reagentto the other beaker (the sample).Swirl gently to mix and wait for 2minutes.• Add 1.0 mL of HI 93737C reagentto each beaker, swirl and wait for 2minutes.• Add 1.0 mL of HI 93737D reagentto each beaker, swirl and wait for 2minutes.• Fill one cuvet up to 1.5 cm (¾") belowthe rim with 10 mL of the blank.• Place the cuvet into the holderand ensure that the notch onthe cap is positioned securelyinto the groove.• Press ZERO and SIP will appear on the LCD.ONOFFABZERO1.5 cm• Wait for a few seconds and thedisplay will show "-0.0-". Now themeter is zeroed and ready for mea-surement.• Fill a second cuvet up to 1.5 cm (¾")below the rim with 10 mL of the re-acted sample.• Insert the second cuvet into theinstrument.• Press READ and "SIP" will appear during measurement.• The instrument directly displays concentration in mg/L ofsilver on the LCD.Note: a temperature above 30°C may cause turbidity. Inthis case, before zeroing and taking readings, add2-3 drops of Dispersing agent (HI93703-51) to eachcuvet and swirl until complete dissolution of turbidity.INTERFERENCESInterference may be caused by:Al3+ above 30 mg/LCa 2+ above 1000 mg/L as CaCo3Cd 2+ above 20 mg/LCl- above 8000 mg/LCO2+ above 1.5 mg/LCr 3+ above 20 mg/LCr 6+ above 40 mg/LCu2+ above 15 mg/LF- above 20 mg/LFe2+ above 1.5 mg/LFe3+ above 10 mg/LK + above 500 mg/LMn2+ above 25 mg/LMg2+ above 1000 mg/L as CaCo3Na + above 5000 mg/LNi2+ above 1.5 mg/LPb 2+ above 20 mg/LZn 2+ above 30 mg/L1.5 cmThe instruction listed below should be carefully followedduring testing to ensure best accuracy.• Do not touch the cuvet walls with hands.• In order to maintain the same conditions during thezeroing and the measuring phases, it is necessary toclose the cuvet to prevent any contamination.• Do not let the test sample stand too long after reagentis added or accuracy will be lost.• Whenever the cuvet is placed into the measurement cell,it must be completely free of fingerprints, oil or dirt.Wipe it thoroughly with HI 731318 or a lint-free clothprior to insertion.• It is important that the sample does not contain anydebris. This would corrupt the readings.• It is possible to take multiple readings in a row, but itis recommended that a zero reading be taken for eachsample and that the same cuvet is used for zeroing andmeasurement.• It is important to discard the sample immediately afterthe reading is taken because the glass might becomepermanently stained.• Shaking the cuvet can generate bubbles in the sample, causing higher readings. To obtain accurate measure-ments, remove such bubbles by swirling or by gentlytapping the vial.• All the reaction times reported in this manual arereferred to 20°C (68°F). As a general rule of thumb, they should be doubled at 10°C (50°F) and halved at30°C (86°F).TIPS FOR AN ACCURATETIPS FOR AN ACCURATETIPS FOR AN ACCURATETIPS FOR AN ACCURATETIPS FOR AN ACCURATEMEASUREMENTMEASUREMENTMEASUREMENTMEASUREMENTMEASUREMENTBATTERY REPLACEMENTBATTERY REPLACEMENTBATTERY REPLACEMENTBATTERY REPLACEMENTBATTERY REPLACEMENTBattery replacement must only take place in a non-hazard-ous area using a 9V alkaline battery.Simply slide off the battery cover on the back of the meter.Detach the battery from the terminals and attach a fresh9V battery while paying attention to the correct polarity.Replace the battery and the cover.9VSLIDEOFFRecommendations for UsersBefore using these products, make sure that they are entirely suitable for the environ-ment in which they are used.Operation of these instruments in residential area could cause unacceptable interferencesto radio and TV equipments, requiring the operator to take all necessary steps to correctinterferences.Any variation introduced by the user to the supplied equipment may degrade theinstruments' EMC performance. To avoid damages or burns, do not perform any measurement in microwave ovens.ACCESSORIESACCESSORIESACCESSORIESACCESSORIESACCESSORIESREAGENT SETSHI 93737-01 Reagents for 50 testsHI 93737-02 Reagents for 150 testsOTHER ACCESSORIESHI 710009 Blue rubber bootHI 710010 Orange rubber bootHI 721310 9V battery (10 pcs)HI 731318 Tissue for wiping cuvets (4 pcs)HI 731321 Glass cuvets (4 pcs)HI 731325 Caps for cuvets (4 pcs)HI 93703-50 Cuvets cleaning solution (230 mL).CE DECLARATIONCE DECLARATIONCE DECLARATIONCE DECLARATIONCE DECLARATIONOF CONFORMITYOF CONFORMITYOF CONFORMITYOF CONFORMITYOF CONFORMITYIST93737R1 11/98PRINTED IN PORTUGAL |
