Although theyoffer excellent resolutions and refresh rates, they aredesigned to make static white backgrounds with blacktext look readable. Some small display devices do notmake colorful motion video look its best. Generally, video will look better on a larger display device.• Age of the TV—Newer TVs usually have moreadvanced features, produce a better quality picture, and support higher screen resolutions. The MediaCenter video display will likely be better on a newermodel TV.• Type of TV (interlaced or progressive scan)Many TVs use interlaced video. Interlaced video displaysa video frame with two passes of alternating scan lines. The TV screen first displays the video image odd linesone at a time, sequentially from top to bottom, then itfills in the other half of the video image with the evenlines. Because most TVs use this interlaced method todisplay the picture on the screen, a standard interlacedanalog TV will most likely flicker when displaying thinlines and small text. An interlaced video display devicewill produce a lower quality display, especially whenviewing and using the Media Center computerfunctions.Progressive scan video displays a video frame with onepass of sequential scan lines. A progressive scan TVdisplays the entire picture, drawn sequentially from topto bottom, without the odd/even interlacing. Thisresults in a fuller, sharper picture and better displayquality for viewing and using the Media Centercomputer functions. The progressive scan picture is alsobrighter and easier on your eyes. You need to configure your Media Center to output to a TV• Your Media Center computer detects whether you areusing a VGA or an S-Video display device andautomatically changes the display settings for the typeof display device you are using.
