112 PhotosUsing the VFL-2 Video Flash LightYou can use the optional VFL-2 Video Flash Light as an external flashwhen its POWER switch is set to n ON. The procedure for setting theexternal flash is the same as for the built-in flash.Attach the optional VFL-2 Video Flash Light to the mini advancedshoe.Refer to Using the Mini Advanced Shoe (0 86).appears when you turn on the video flash light (n ON). For detailsabout using the video flash light, refer to the instruction manual of theVFL-2.NOTES• The flash will not fire in the following cases:- When the flash mode is set to [U Automatic] or [V Red-Eye Auto]and you manually adjust the exposure.- During auto exposure bracketing.- When the flash mode is set to [U Automatic] or [V Red-Eye Auto]and the recording program is set to [q Night Scene].- When using an optional video light.• About the AF-Assist Lamp: While you press j halfway, if the sur-roundings of the subject are too dark, the mini video light may pop upand the assist lamp may light up briefly in order to enable the camcorderto focus more accurately (AF-assist lamp).- You can also set 8 8 [AF-Assist Lamp] to [B Off] so the assistlamp is not activated.- The camcorder may not be able to focus even if the AF-assist lamp ison.• The practical range of the flash is approx. 1 to 2 m (3.3 to 6.6 ft.). Thepractical range with the VFL-2 attached is approx. 1 to 4 m (3.3 to13.1 ft.). In any case, the actual range will depend on the recording con-ditions.• The range of the flash decreases in continuous shooting mode.• For red-eye reduction to be effective, the subject needs to look at theassist lamp. The degree of reduction depends on the distance and oneach individual.• The flash mode cannot be selected when the exposure is locked.• We recommend not using the flash while the optional Wide-converter orTele-converter is attached; its shadow can appear on the screen.COPY
