BMC Not RespondingProblemThe BMC does not respond.SymptomYou cannot power off, power on, or power cycle the host system. You cannot obtain HostSystem health information.SolutionMake sure that in IPMI configuration "Use server's onboard BMC to access healthinformation" is checked. Confirm that the BMC I2C address needs to be set to 0X20.When the BMC is in locked state the user cannot get the sensor information. In order tomake the BMC come out of that state the system needs to be rebooted. The BMC's I2Caddress should never be set to 0x21 – that is not a valid address. 0x20 is the correctaddress for almost all BMCs. If it is not, the BMC or motherboard provider must supplythe correct one. Many BMCs feature a reset button that can be used to reset the BMC only. That buttoncan be used to reset the BMC. If using a BMC without a BMC reset button, the systemmust be powered off and the power cable(s) unplugged. Some BMCs will run on systemstandby power, and stay on even though the system is in an off state.ARMC/2 User’s Guide134
