For an effective overvoltage protection itis mandatory to connect the functional earthing aswell as the cable shield.A D V I C EAny SHDSL port supports auto-crossover detectionand correction, so signals A and B may beinterchanged.A D V I C EThe signal lines are short-circuit protected and maybe connected while the module is powered andworking.Serial Interfaces (Con0 - Con1)The serial interfaces of the devices are signalcompatible to RS-232. The connector is a RJ-12 femaleplug. The factory pre-sets are speed 57600 Baud,no parity, 1 stop bit, no flow control. On delivery, themanagement console can be accessed via the serialinterface.Pin allocation serial interface RS-232 (RJ-12)RS-232 RS-232 PC SUB-D9Pin SignalDirection Pin SignalDirection1 DCD Output 1 DCD Input2 CTS Output 8 CTS Input3 RTS Input 7 RTS Output4 GND - 5 GND -5 RxD Output 2 RxD Input6 16 TxD Input 3 TxD OutputPin allocation serial interface RS-485 half duplex(RJ-12)RS-485 half duplex / 2-wirePin Signal Direction123 B (-) bi-directional4 GND -56 16 A (+) bi-directionalPin allocation serial interface RS-485 full duplex(RJ-12)RS-485 full duplex / 4-wirePin Signal Direction12 B (-) Input3 B (-) Output4 GND -5 A (+) Input6 16 A (+) OutputPower connector (X1)The EDS500 devices are equipped with a wide rangepower supply for voltages between 24 and 60 Volts DC(power consumption see device label). This includes theearthing of the hat rail as well as all shields of alltransmission lines and supply feedings. RJ-12 plugsor RJ-45 plugs can establish earthing via the shield.Extension interface (EXT)The plug of the proprietary expansion bus is designedas USB type B but uses a manufacturer specificprotocol. The configuration parameters are stored directlyon the device. In addition, a configuration stick canbe connected to the expansion bus to save dataexternally, in example to exchange defective deviceseasily.A D V I C EDanger of damaging the deviceDo not connect any USB devices!Alarm-Relay (X2)The devices are equiped with a potential free alarmoutput (relay with isolated switchover contact). Thisoutput corresponds to a device alarm and is activatedwhen the device looses the power supply or the alarmLED is constantly on. The reason for the signalling ofan alarm can be referenced in the system alarm table.
