SNMP is composed of three areas:n A set of rules that define how a management station cancommunicate with a device.n A Management Information Base (MIB) that defines whatinformation can be obtained from the device by themanagement station. Every SNMP-manageable device has aMIB.n Unsolicited messages called Traps, which work differently to theusual request/reply management communication. You canconfigure a device so that it generates a Trap if a certaincondition occurs; for example, a power overload. The Trap willbe sent to the management station to inform it of theoccurrence.Device is a term that is used to refer to a piece of networkequipment. Every device has a unique address that is used toidentify it on the network.Internet Protocol (IP) is a data communication protocol used toconnect computers and data equipment into computer networks. Itis used on a large international network called the Internet, whichis composed of universities, government facilities, researchinstitutions, and private companies.Serial Line Internet Protocol (SLIP) is the protocol for routing IPdata down a serial line.
